Default Lightfoot - March and April 2010 concert dates

Lightfoot's work not only stands the test of time, it transcends it.
~ Globe & Mail

Canada’s Most Celebrated Singer-Songwriter
GORDON LIGHTFOOT
Announces His Canadian Touring Schedule
For Spring of 2010!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Toronto, ON, November 2, 2009 -- Fellow Canadian, Robbie Robertson calls him a national treasure, while millions of fans the world over continue to be touched by Gordon Lightfoot’s remarkable contributions to music history. These time-defying songs document the events that shape our lives and have gone on to earn this legendary singer/songwriter an international reputation as one of the most anticipated live performers. With his trademark soulful vocals, Gordon Lightfoot’s concerts continually fill to capacity with legions of fans eager to once again experience the unmistakable Lightfoot sound. This Spring, Gordon Lightfoot will perform live in this, his 5th decade of touring, on a 12-city Spring 2010 Tour of Eastern Canada, Quebec, and Ontario. Tickets go on-sale to the public on Friday, November 6, 2009. Please see full tour details below.

The first stop on Lightfoot’s Spring 2010 Tour kicks off on March 29th and 30th with concerts at the Holy Heart Theatre in St. John’s, and continues through the Maritimes with concerts slated for Corner Brook, Halifax, Moncton, Saint John (NB), and then on to Quebec City and Montreal. The Ontario dates include 2 nights at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, followed by stops in Kingston, Peterborough, Hamilton and finally on April 15th at the John Labatt Centre in London.

Born November 17, 1938 in Orillia, Ontario Gordon Lightfoot studied at Los Angeles’ Westlake College of Music. He returned to Canada in the early 1960s and began performing at the “Riverboat” during Toronto's fabled folk scene. In 1966, his debut album Lightfoot! was released. Tracks such as For Lovin' Me, Early Mornin' Rain, Steel Rail Blues and Ribbon of Darkness brought him international recognition as a songwriter. Cover versions of his songs were recorded by artists such as Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley, until 1971 when his own version of If You Could Read My Mind became a Top Ten hit. In 1974, his classic single, Sundown, went to No.1 on the American charts, followed two years later by The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, inspired by a Newsweek magazine article; it reached No. 2 on the U.S. Billboard charts. By the 1990s he was mostly touring, giving just fifty concerts a year by 1998, mainly in North America, while he released two albums in the period. In 2004, he released his 20th album Harmony, and appeared as a featured guest on Canadian Idol.
Mr. Lightfoot has won 15 Juno Awards and been nominated for 5 Grammy Awards. He was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1986 and the Canadian Country Music Hall Of Fame in 2001. In May 2003 was made a Companion of the Order of Canada and is also a member of the Order of Ontario, and in 2004 was inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Gordon Lightfoot continues his legacy at Toronto’s Massey Hall this fall with a return 4-night engagement slated for November 18, 19, 20, & 21, 2009 at 8 p.m. Gordon Lightfoot began his series of annual concerts at Massey Hall in March 1967 with two sold-out concerts, and has the honour of making the most solo appearances at the Hall of any performer. Limited tickets for this appearance are still available.
A full tour schedule follows.

It exhausts me just reading it. What a guy, I hope they know how much we appreciate that they keep touring.

Wouldn't it be great if one of us could take in every one of his concerts one year? What an endeavor that would be.

With the H1N1 Flu Season hitting Canada and North America, How does Gord prepare to tour despite of the Pandemic? What preparations does he have in avoiding the Swine Flu while being out on the road, and playing in these crowded concert halls? Does he believe in taking flu shots?

I'm sure if he believes in inoculations he has quick access to the ones he wants and/or needs.

Last summer there was a preventative in place. Anyone that got backstage for the meet and greet had to use a hand sanitzer prior to having their moment with Gord. Don't know if this practice was the brainstorm of the temp manager (Greg) he had at the time while Leslie was at previous commitment or if it was Gord's idea, but it seem to be prudent to me.

Can anyone who's been at a concert lately share if this is still the practice? If not, it should be.

And of course this does not cover the multitude of people he comes into contact with that aren't part of the meet and greet crowd.

Good question.

On a related topic: Yesterday my family was at a Special Olympic State Games held in our state with about 200 people, touching table tops, giving high fives and sharing bowling balls. My husband and I both commented on how this would be a pandemic in the making if the flu/H1N1 was prevalent in our area. Yikes.

Hello everyone.

I am a brand new member and this is my very first post.

Requiring people to use a hand sanitizer makes perfect sense. I work in a doctor's office and one of the first things we do for patients without a spleen is to put them in a room away from other patients as soon as possible, as they are much more susceptible to infection. It is my understanding that Gordon no longer has one as a result of his illness. This could be one reason why it takes him so long to shake a cold.

He needs to be careful always, but now it is IMPERATIVE that he take every precaution he can to prevent illness.

After all, we need him healthy so he can continue to sing for us!

I only saw it in Binghamton, NH and RI. In RI they said it was due to concern about swine flu, in the others they didn't offer any explaination. They lined us up and went down the line squirting Purell into our hands. It's a real good idea. Think of how many hands Gord touches during one night.

i never new the spleen had a purpose such as helping us shake colds...thanks

until i read that i figured Gord was in the non-priority category and not due to be cued up until later this month...right now it's high risk under-65s and 6month to 5 year olds...i would recommend getting your shots...i feel there are one too many Susan Sommers and Jenny McCarthy's out there...this is a vaccine (when a polio vaccine came along there was cheering and not such jeering) not thalidomide...i understand that each of us may have had unfortunate and tragic experiences that have led us to believe otherwise...i do believe we could all do without the handshaking and greeting kisses and the what not...big hugs are acceptable

ps) welcome redhead

ps2) i thought most of us carried the jacket or purse or manpurse (in my case ) size alcohol sanitizer for the past year or two...it's pretty cheap and easy...i got motivated when i first tried (i tied and failed) taking the GO train for cummuting...i did a lot of people habit watching, those poles are gross...and the TTC is even more gruesome...public washrooms are off the charts...i must have contracted the howie mandell virus/gene at some point, lol

i think folks should start smearing the stuff on the lips before we enter xmas greeting season...warning: get some chapstick cos that alcohol stings a bit when applied to cracked lips!

enough babbling...good health to Gord and all fellow corfiddlers

...btw, i still love ham and mustard

Gordon Lightfoot, seen in July 2005, will hit the road next spring at the age of 71.

PICTURE AT LINK (Canadian Press)Gordon Lightfoot, the Canadian folk troubador who turns 71 later this month, is planning a 12-city tour of Eastern Canada next spring.

The tour includes two nights at Ottawa's National Arts Centre in next April as part of the NAC's 40th anniversary season and one night at the John Labatt Centre in London, Ont.

The singer-songwriter also plans stops in St. John's, Corner Brook, N.L., Halifax, Moncton, Saint John, Quebec City, Montreal, Kingston, Peterborough and Hamilton, Ont.
