Just thought you folks might like a look at this cool mural that just
went up on the "Second Cup" coffee shop here in Ottawa (corner
of Bank & SunnySide)

all the best

Awesome, thanks!! I recognize the first fellow on the left. Didn't he sing at Live 8?? I can't remember his name, though. He's Canadian, that much I know. Dr. something??

Hi again,

Yes, left to right its Bruce Cockburn, Sylvia Tyson (thanks Mel)
Gordie, and Joni Mitchell.

Not sure who did painted it.

Its part of our local neighborhood "Folk Singers Walk of Fame"

A little more info on that......

Thank you, Kurt. I'm starting to think I'm missing out on a lot of stuff being from "south of the border!" I'd never heard of Bruce Cockburn before Live 8 and he's absolutely fantastic. I've got to get some CDs of his...

hey, my pleasure. Nothing quite like the site of Gord covering
half a building to make yer day

FYI - Here's a couple of pretty decent Cockburn compilations to
start out with -

Singles 1979-2002

Singles 1970-1987

His latest album's pretty excellent too,

Speechless

but - note - He's only doing acoustic instrumentals this
time round.

Bruce sings the Franklin song on the cartoon, found that out by accident. Voice sounded familiar so I watched the show and it was Bruce. Nice guy.

Thanks Kurt this is fantastic.

wonderful stuff Kurt
I was very pleased to see that you have mastered the technique for displaying pictures and used your free ISP web space at:-
http://www3.sympatico.ca/kurt.martin
jj (Jimmy Jones) if you are still there and reading this please take note and if necessary contact Kurt for guidance on using this feature as I believe you once complained here that you were unable to fathom out how to use your free sympatico web space
Kurt one minor quibble:-
Unless I am seeing double

why did you upload three of these four pictures twice each??
checking each of the 7 picture's properties reveals that you numbered them consecutively 01,jpg to 07.jpg.
strange
Anyway I was so impressed that I posted a link on the Newsgroup
(which is not intended to cater for binary contents such as digital pictures etc and where it is only possible to include links to such pictures so much less complete a way of sharing items such as this)
my NG thread starts at:-

John Fowles

OK Kurt I should also have mentioned a much more serious quibble. This is that it looks like you have used the pictures straight out of your digital camera as they are all 1024 by 768 pixels. So unfortuneately they are too wide to fit into the fixed limited available width of this forum.I tried to illustrate this some while ago in the test forum topic:-
Topic: Picature resizing test deliberate misspelling there sorry at:-
http://www.corfid.com/ubb/ultimatebb...c;f=3;t=000153
where I revealed my discovery of a most useful bit of freeware called "photogadget"
that may be downloaded from the
Photo Gadget site

2 screenshots of photogadget menus

Photogadget "right click" menu which leads to:-

the resizing options menu

using this I reduced the size of your large overall picture to just 800 by 600 pixels as below:-

This has the added advantage of slightly reducing the jpeg's filesize
(from 91 to 71KB it doesn't sound like much but hey for those of us still suffering a dial-up connection every little bit helps and is essential to make a picature fit into the available format)
OK I know that I really must complete my tutorial on these matters
John Fowles

Too young to understand how love begins

I'm on my second cup of coffee and I still can't face the day

Oops I did a more detailed observation and I was wrong.
there were seven individual pictures noting that for inexplicable reasons no doubt best known to Kurt himself
01 05 and 07 are essentially the same view
03 and 04 are pretty similar different traffic though
06 is the same as 02 but shows more of Joni Mitchell
John Fowles

Giday from the Ottawa Valley
Although I have travelled past the mural many times I"m always travelling North - the mural faces the other way-South-
I was notified by our goodfriend Ron Jones of Vancouver of the existence of this wonderful work of art. One of the posting someone wished to know who was the artist - Shawn McGinnis -a mural specialist. Arthur Mcgregor of the Folklore Centre (just aroung the corner by the way) was kind enough to fill in the blanks - Wonderful site
