Lynne Ackerman Passed Away
To those of you who knew & loved Lynne, I am deeply saddened to inform you that sweet Lynne passed away peacefully last night. Todd Andrews, Lynnes best friend, is drafting up an e-mail update providing details & the info on the funeral (which will be held this coming Monday in T.O.) & will send out the update to those on Lynne's personal list. I just thought I'd pass this along to you ASAP so that you can offer up your prayers for Lynne's family.
The family prefers no flowers but donations instead. However, the family is still working on the details as to where to send donations. Todd will let us know.
Be Well
~*~ We miss you Lynne. We love you. ~*~

Re: Lynne Ackerman Passed Away
I am very saddened by the news of Lynne's death after following her illness for several years. I recall her many postings from the pre-Corfid days and am saddened that there is one less member of our 'Lightfoot' family. My condolences to her friends and family.

Re: Lynne Ackerman Passed Away
Sad to hear this news from Todd..Lynne had many wonderful stories and memories of the Yorkville days and Gordon.
She loved our Gordon, no doubt about it..
She's at peace after a very hard fought struggle these last several years..
Condolences to her family and all of her friends..

Re: Lynne Ackerman Passed Away
So sad hearing this news. I never knew her or even met her although I feel I've known her a long time because she was at practically every Massey Hall concert that I attended and that was most of them for sure. She was always up close to the front and wore a badge that read "Lightfoot Forever." I would say her favorite place was in the front row, 1st seat, right centre. She had lots of friends and was friendly with Gord's family. I'm sorry now I didn't approach her and become her friend in those days. My loss for sure. Very sad. RJ.

Re: Lynne Ackerman Passed Away
rest peacefully, Lynne...although my having finally had the pleasure of a brief intro at the Hamilton Gord Comeback gig, I am but a distant stranger although have received so many updates over the years and while so saddened by this news I can mildly balance the sorrow knowing that she must be free of much pain and frustration experienced during her recent years
speaking of the Gord comeback and Hamilton HHS, as far as a token group donation, I wondered if the Friday Massey pub jam could also be a celebration of Lynne as well and perhaps I could even make a crude DVD of the event segments and any interested could pop in say $10 to be mailed a copy with the small but meaningful proceeds going to a donation in her name on behalf of her fellow Gord e-fans, just a thought
my anecdote: I must have first heard reference to Lynne while reading the newsgroup back in the late 90s - years later, I remember late one night my showing some photos I was e-mailed of our Hamilton fan dinner gathering to a fairly keen local Gord fan and friend of mine who is probably about 60 - he is actually originally a friend of my older brother, anyhow...
when he saw her in one of the pics, he immediately yiped "wow, the Lightfoot woman!" (I am certain she was SO much more than that) - anyhow, I was a bit stunned and said that's also what I kind of came to think of her as, nickname-wise
I said to him that her name was actually Lynne and he nodded, "Yes, Lynne!" - he said he had been to various parties back when he was in his early twentys and there was a memorable gal who was kept telling him and others of this wonderful, talented Lightfoot fella and she knew almost everything about him - he said this gal knew more about this guy than I think I know about myself I can't believe he recognized her from the mostly facial shot SO many years later
anyhow, one of those 'small world' stories that has always brought about a smile, as I'm sure Lynne did to Gord, family and so many other loved ones...my best to her family at this time

Re: Lynne Ackerman Passed Away
Lynn was a wonderful person and a great friend. I went back stage with her at Massey 2001 and that is a memory that I will always treasure.
I remember the long emails she used to write me, filled with all the places she was going or was planning to go and all the interesting people she had met.
Sometimes I didn't keep up with the Emails the way I should have and I regret that.
She was truly one of the nicest, most sincere, giving people I've ever known.
She was simply a good person.
I will miss her and I am saddened at her death, but I am happy that I got a chance to know her.

I agree Erica, well put.
I remember my first meeting with Lynn. She showed us some wonderful photo albums filled with pictures of Gord from the early years.
Lynn also was in the gatefold picture of Sunday Concert, and I belive Gord mentioned her in the liner notes from the box set. I know Gord will be saddened by this news also.

Excellent suggestion JJ to do something on Lynne's behalf at the Friday pub gig. We'll work something out in the meantime. RJ.

Re: Lynne Ackerman Passed Away
From The Toronto Star:

ACKERMAN, Lynne
ACKERMAN, Lynne Renee On April 24, 2008, after a long and arduous journey in hospital, Lynne passed away peacefully at home. Beloved daughter of the late Mary and David Ackerman, cherished sister of Sheila and Robert Ziedenberg, Susan and Jack Kurin, Sari Ackerman, Lowell and Sue Ackerman. Devoted aunt to Kayla, Michael and Marissa Kurin; David, Rebecca and Nadia Ackerman. Dear granddaughter, niece and cousin. How sweet, beautiful and thoughtful Lynne was! Intelligent, independent-minded, compassionate and generous, she was a loving family member, a loyal and trusted friend to many, a devoted fan and avid supporter of the arts. Her unwavering courage, indomitable spirit and understanding heart serve as a testament to her strength of character and in inspiration to all who came to know and love her. Clearly, her years on earth were too few and her passing has left a profound void in our hearts. We will forever miss her. Funeral service 11 a.m. at Benjamin Park Memorial Chapel, 2401 Steeles Ave. W. Interment Adath Israel Section, Pardes Shalom Cemetery. Shiva commences Monday, April 28th at 70 Franklin Ave., Thornhill. Donations may be made to the Lynn Ackerman Memorial Fund, c/o The Benjamin Foundation, 3429 Bathurst St., Toronto, ON M6A 2C3 or the charity of your choice.

early Yorkville: at the tail of some other thread, I had posted this old postcard I found but thought I'd link it here...I wonder if anyone could take a current pic of this same location? I was born in Toronto but am not really a downtown type and haven't been able to find this same viewpoint where the postcard shot was taken from..I can never find parking in or near Yorkville (or anywhere else in the city for that matter)

Re: Lynne Ackerman Passed Away
JJ - I don't think any of those places would even be recognizable today. A printout taken door to door of all the shoppes and restaurants might solve the puzzle..
