Dear Sundownbuff, that is a great story.
Imagine, you were in at the (almost) beginning. How lucky can you get! Do you recall how he looked then? Not that I'm obsessed or anything LOL. The earliest I saw him was 69 when he came to London to appear on tv - and as a young girl I quickly handed over my as then untouched
heart. The poor man has been holding on fast
ever since and doesnt even know it!
But hang on Gord -- tomorrow is another day
LOL
Thank you Sundownbuff - lovely story. More please?

Fun question to contemplate.
How about an old Waylon Jennings tune: Only Daddy That'll Walk the Line (don't know if that's the actual title, but I'm sure some of you will know). Wouldn't that be fun and funky coming from Gord? I can just hear him doing it and doing it well...with attitude!
Also, although female vocalists, Kate Wolf and Nanci Griffith have AWESOME material that I think Gord could bring to another dimension. I'll have to put on some of their CD's and consider this further...

Margaret,
You and I are two of a kind. Both struggeling with an illness...And like you, I have good days, bad days and days beyond endurance or belief. But this bb takes my mind off my pain, anxiety and fears.
And it makes me happy. There are so many great people here. And there is one, in
particular who all of a sudden and out of nowhere emailed me in my darkest hour. She is
my "Angel In The Night"....

Back to the topic at hand!

I'd love it if he did "Fast Moving Train" &
"Dancy's Song" by Restless Heart. They're
"Gord" type songs.

all-time favorite and if Gord where to do it........well then..... migraine in progress

FOUR STRONG WINDS would be a wonderful Gord tune. It was sang by several different people but the one I remember best was sang by a male group. It has not popped into my foggy brain, but I will post it as soon as I remember.

I think the name of the group was the Brother's Four. Does anyone but me remember them. They had crew cuts. This was in the early 60's.

Ian Tyson/Warner Brother Music

Four strong winds that blow lonely, Seven seas that run high,
All these things that don't change, Come what may.
But our good times are all gone,
And I'm bound for moving on.
I'll look for you if I'm ever back this way.

Think I'll go out to Alberta,
Weather's good there in the fall.
Got some friends that I can go to working for,
Still I wish you'd change your mind
If I asked you one more time,
But we've been through that a hundred times or more.

If I get there before the snow flies,
And if things are going good,
You could meet me if I send you down the fare.
But if you wait until it's winter,
It will be no good
'Cause that wind sure can blow way out there.

No one sings it like Ian - born in Victoria B.C. 1933 but an Alberta boy at heart. Good lookin too!

His version will make you drop to your knees - that's a promise!
Char
I'll look for an MP3 to post.

Exactly, Char - absolutely spot on!
And a truly beautiful song - I am off to
find it and play it again ... Gord should
indeed include Four Strong Winds in concert if not on CD.If
any of the Lightfoot management team are reading this - it's a serious request. No joking around.

Hi Everyone I have been travelling in Canada and Ireland. Was delighted when I was back in Canada to hear Gord played on the radio with such regularity. He sang to my heart. He always does.
The song I would like to hear him sing is The Enfolding by Lui Collins and Garnet Rogers. Imagine Gord gliding through these words.

Deep, within this softly spoken night
We awoke, to find ,love's sweet expression
Unfolding of its own accord.
A touch in gentle sleepiness
A fingertip
A touching lip
The kindness of our bodies
Speaking softly in the dark.

Will be back with other suggesstions.I missed u guys and gals:}

Hey, Midnightmisty - yeah, we must have some stuff in common OTHER than Gord: I, too, enjoy some Restless Heart tunes, including those you mentioned. Leaving for Canada day-after-tomorrow, but looking forward to logging back on in mid Sept to check in with all of you.........
Take care!
M.
PS: Does anyone out there listen to James Keelaghan? Really, if you like Gord, you're bound to like some of his stuff, too!

As mentioned in my earlier post, I went through a few of my Nanci Griffith CD's. I think Gord would do a memorable job with "You Can't Go Home Again". The lyrics and melody are melancholy but stirring. It's from the album titled, "Poet In My Window". (Does anyone out there listen to Nanci??) Also, two Kate Wolf favorites which I feel Gord could perform masterfully are:
"Across the Great Divide" (which Nanci sings on a tribute album** to great folk artists); and "Unfinished Life". Both these songs have an artistic quality which I bet would appeal to GL. Here is a bit from "Unfinished Life":
"It's a journey with my soul that I am taking,
One that only goes from the cradle to the grave.
Going 'round in circles like painted dancing horses,
Up and down we ride on the wooden courses.
And light from a lover's eyes
Is all that we can save."
If you are looking for great lyrical talent, I think Kate Wolf hits the mark. She's (almost) as good as Gordon, but with an X chromosome. Unfortunately, she succumbed to leukemia in 1986.
**The album "Other Voices Other Rooms" by Nanci Griffith honors Gordon, too. Nanci does 10 Degrees and Getting Colder with some feminine rock-a-billy spunk.
OK...you're probably all asleep by now thanks to my ramblings. So... g'night!
M.
