GORDON LIGHTFOOT ANNOUNCES THE RELEASE OF MASSEY HALL MOMENTS – ALL LIVE

Album to be released Tuesday, April 17, 2012

Fans can pre-order for pre-street-date delivery when ordering tickets for 2012 Massey Hall shows

Warner Music Canada is proud to be able to announce the Tuesday, April 17, 2012 release date of the Gordon Lightfoot album Massey Hall Moments – All Live. The album is currently available for pre-order at www.gordonlightfoot.ca and will be available at all physical music retailer as well as Digital Service Providers.

It is the musical highlight of every calendar year when Canadian Music legend, Gordon Lightfoot announces his run of concert dates at Toronto’s storied Massey Hall. Last May 25th, 2011 marked Gordon’s 150th concert at the hallowed hall in the past 40 years. In 1978 he played a remarkable 10 shows in 9 days, selling out each and every night. Now, for the first time ever, Gordon has gone through the archives of live recordings from Massey Hall and has picked the finest performances recorded between 1998 – 2001. “The recordings have not been technically altered and are authentic live mixes,” says Lightfoot of the album. Fans will hear each song exactly as it was performed that night – no over dubs, no mixing – ALL LIVE.

“Gordon Lightfoot has performed at Massey Hall more than any other individual artist in the Halls 117 year history. The contribution that Mr. Lightfoot has made to Toronto is immense and it’s only fitting that he would share some of these moments with the rest of the world with the release of Massey Hall Moments – All Live. Great halls need great performances from the greatest performers. Gordon Lightfoot is part of the Massey Hall legacy and we’re proud to welcome him back year after year. We always look forward to it. Welcome home Gordon!” - Charles S. Cutts, President and CEO of The Corporation of Massey Hall and Roy Thomson Hall

Concurrent to the album release announcement, Gordon Lightfoot is announcing the onsale of tickets for his 2012 run at Massey Hall, November 14, 14, 16 and 17, 2012. Tickets for the 2012 Massey Hall dates go on sale Friday, March 2, 2012 at 10:00am. Fans buying tickets through the Roy Thomson Hall box office (416-872-4255) or www.masseyhall.com will also have the option of adding the new album to their purchase. Massey Hall Moments – All Live will be delivered to these ticket holders on or before the Friday prior to street date.

How could one possibly describe in one paragraph the impact Gordon Lightfoot and his music has had on Canadian culture. Just a line list of some of his songs paints a vivid portrait of our nation; “Early Morning Rain,” “Canadian Railroad Trilogy,” “The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald,” “If You Could Read My Mind,” “Carefree Highway” and “Summer Side Of Life” are only a small sampling. On Thursday, June 14, 2012, Gordon Lightfoot legacy will be further enhanced when he will be inducted into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame in New York City in the performer category alongside Bob Seger, Don Schlitz, Harvey Schmidt, Tom Jones and Jim Steinman.

Gordon Lightfoot has won 15 Juno Awards and been nominated for 5 Grammy Awards. He was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1986 and the Canadian Country Music Hall Of Fame in 2001. In May 2003 was made a Companion of the Order of Canada and is also a member of the Order of Ontario, and in 2004 was inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Oh well I guess it was too much to hope for something.. anything new, but with all due respect for Gord's quest for perfection I do feel that it was a golden opportunity to present the Pokemon song (Night-Time), especially since it was on the setlists on two of the three concerts in 2001 (the 24th and 26th) and other songs from both nights ARE on the CD At least it contains 19 tracks (I haven't yet totalled the running time as per the studio recordings but I would anticipate that with a modicum of audience applause it may well be a fairly full 80 minutes worth.
I must press on and finish my own listing of 'Extra Rare" items. so that for consolation those who have a mind to could burn their own "new songs" CD (it might well have to be a double CD anyway)

Char: Thanks for posting the song list of the new album. I am always thrilled to enjoy a new album- especially one that is pure Massey, just like it sounded.

Some really great songs were left off: Don Quixote, Minstrel of the Dawn, In My Fashion, Triangle, etc. Maybe they will appear on the DVD someday of the Massey 2011 concerts that were filmed.

That being said, I am slightly disappointed that there were not one or two rarrieties included. I could have done without another example of Ring Neck Loon, Blackberry Wine and 14 Karat Gold. Think the more rare, "Sit Down Young Stranger" , "That Same Old Obsession" and "I'd Do Anything" would have been more juicy to await.

But Gord knows best. He chose a representative mix of a typical concert for us to enjoy forever. Thanks Gord and I can't wait for April 17 !!

I'm looking forward to this. I've never heard a live version of "Ringneck Loon". I'm glad the CD includes something ("Let It Ride") from my favourite Lightfoot album "East of Midnight". But I'm surprised the two long blockbusters ("Wreck" and "Trilogy") appear back-to-back.

While I will certainly buy and listen to the cd I can't resist saying how disappointed I am with the track list.

This was an opportunity to feature some classic songs that are not performed nearly enough. I for one would gladly do without Blackberry Wine and Baby Step Back in favour of Ode to Big Blue or Sit Down Young Stranger which were performed at the source concerts.

Very disappointing.

As someone who never has (and sadly never will in all likelihood) seen Gord live I'm thrilled with this release. Of course it had to have the big songs on it to have the widest appeal and the lesser known tracks all rank high amongst my favourites (plus there are a couple on there that I don't know, yes I'm a bad fan for having a few gaps in my collection!)

Yeah, I gotta agree with some of the posts...wishing this was fleshed out to say 24 tracks to add on DQ, Minstrel of the Dawn, and a few others. But hey, if it does well, maybe a second edition! Or like someone ventured...a DVD.

Not likely I'll ever get to see him in Massey, so that would be very nice.

Wow! This is exciting news and coming at a time of the year when we need a sort of "pick me up" to help get through the last days of winter.

The posting of this years Massey Hall concerts in November is a big highlight as we can now get rolling on plans to connect with all the folks who come into town from all over and try and show everyone a good time.

And as usual we will try and arrange a pub jam once again at McVeigh's for the Friday afternoon.

It's never too late to start the ball rolling.

The song list for the Massey Hall Moments album is raising controversy as can be seen here and yes, we all have our "wished for songs" that didn't make it but it will be interesting to take the time and sit down and really have a good listen once the album is in our hands.

Looking forward to good times ahead.

RJ.

Dissappointed that 'Night Time' is not on the list. I know it's posted elsewhere on Corfid.

Was lucky enough to be at the May 26, 2001 show with all my family, so we do have the recording of 'The No Hotel' from that night we were there on the 'Harmony' album.

Now we will have 'Christian Island' (short version) and 'Let It Ride' from that night also!!!!!!

Pretty cool all around. We really can't be mad at Gord, it's his music and property and probably his decisions.

Interestingly tight window for the selections don't you think? When it was first mentioned I was thinking it might showcase one track every few years to give a sense of the total package. That's why I don't bet. Well as the kids say "it is what it is" and of course I'll buy it and play it 5 or 6 times, put it on my iPod, and then see how often it comes around in rotation.

wow, i wasnt expecting much but this is even less than what i expected

starting the the cd cover...seems like Gord should be positioned lower and give more headroom

i guess it's subjective but i think that's an awful clash of fonts...and font for Lightfoot is just atrocious ... it's the type you would see on a hoaky country artist's LP cover

i will bet the sound is crisp...the greatest thing is that, unlike at Massey, WE can TURN UP THE VOLUME is we want to!!!!

i would say the live version of Shellfish on the Harmony album is more intriguing than this entire 19 song compilation found here

i'll be post-ordering my copy

Yeah, the photo is very contrasty and the fonts/placent weird. Not what I would have done, but it isn't my place to critisize either.

It seems they've done an homage to the "Did She Memtion My Name?" cover from the 60s.

I think a shot of MASSEY HALL could have been included on the cover.. the meeting of two legendary icons over so many years should have been acknowledged.

Gordon called me the other day and we spoke about the video footage shot @ Massey last May and the word from him is there will be no release of any of that footage.

So this CD of LIVE audio recorded @ Massey from a small window of time is what we're getting.

Yes Bill. Good hunch. DSMMN. (my least fave album cover other than the Gord pic)

I wasn't intentionally flaming the thing, just airing out some disappointment. We lightfoot fans wait a hell of a long time between albums (or any sort of release) this past 25 years!!!

For folks wanting "I'll Do Anything" remember there is a great live version from the MMM live show and he even includes the bridge ( not on the studio version)

Char, that awesome that he called you for a wee chat and update. Next time ask him about Letterman! This new Cd is a good excuse to get on the USA tv promo circuit. How about Charlie Rose. Piers Morgan. Kelly Rippa. Lol

Hey - when he calls out of the blue like that and I see his name on the phone my brain empties completely. I could have asked him a dozen questions had I been able to think...He said what he wanted to say. I said a couple of things, yadda yadda, see you in Orillia..bye bye..and we're outta here!

folks could list what 5 songs they are looking forward to most???

i can think of 4 that jump out, that i was at Massey for and would like to hear:

Christian Island (Gord able to sing over the band, and Terry in the spotlight)

Fine as Fine Can Be (where Mike uses warm strings sound instead of e-piano)

Restless (i never grow tired of hearing Barry doing his signature percussion work)

Let It Ride (the closing high end bass work that Rick does is always a treat)

yeah - Restless and CI would have been nice. Some songs may not have been included due to 'bad' recordings/sound/voice issues but were on 'the list' to start.....

Had I my wits about me when he called I could have asked him why some songs and not others..lol

Wait. Don't tell me I'm seeing things. They are on it, right?

You must have stayed up drinking too late after that Leaf win with the new coach. Lol

Isn't that great that fans can just chant a they get rid of a coach. Will that also work for politicians?

Wow. Ring neck loon.

When I saw that live it seemed to go on about twice as long as the Wreck

Many of these are already on Reno live. Is the audio that much different? Same era. Same man on the mix.

I hope it sounds warm like Massey and not digital like APPT.

Looking forward to seeing the inners of the cd jacket. If there's no pic of Massey then this time YOU call Gord, char!!!! Lol
