you can't find any friends to go to a Gordon Lightfoot concert with, haven't bought a ticket because you have to wake up at 4 a.m. the next morning to run a marathon, have a fever and chills, and have to take public transit to get to the show (including a 1.5-mile walk from the stop to the amphitheater) because of traffic, but miraculously manage to get to the box office at the perfect moment and get a front-row seat--and then he opens with your favorite song, 14-carat gold.

....the only thing you listen to is his music....
if your riding in someone car and they are listening to the radio or a CD of their choice, you pull out your MP3 player stick your earphones in and listen to Gordon
...Your desktop picture is Gordon's
...you have a picture of him and yourself on the wall that is bigger and is above one of your late husband (he wouldn't mind, he knew I was a fanatic long before he died)
...you use quotes from his songs in analogy's in your daily life
... you believe every song he sung seems to mirror your whole life.
...You sell your late husbands tools just to go see him 300 miles away (Gord said he don't know if he'd like that when I saw him backstage, until he found out my hubby had been dead for 19 years) Once again Thanks to the secret friend who helped make that happen.
... the only thing on your bucket list is going to see concerts of him.

There's more but I think this is enough.

. there are pictures, plural, of gordon on the fridge
. trips to see your children conveniently coincide with concerts taking place in their towns
. a gordon cd, or tape, has been playing in your car since 1979
. your husband says it is okay if you marry gordon because he knew that was "the deal" when you got married
. there is a framed, and signed, picture of gordon on your dining room wall, despite the protests from your children that it doesn't fit the decor.
. you download gordon songs into your phone so his voice will be the alarm that wakes you in the morning.
. family members are assigned fitting gordon songs as their ringtones on your phone.
. etc....

...when you spend 2500 dollars on a D-18 to look and sound like Gord.
...when the little tune you whistle to yourself every day at work for the past 30 years is from a refrain from a Lightfoot song.

When your son's nursery school teacher asks if anyone wants to sing a song, your son stands up, grabs his "air guitar" and belts out The Canadian Railway Trilogy. And when his teacher is so impressed that she asks him if he knows another song he does Sundown for an encore.

I posted this at a Lightfoot FB and someone there resurrected it...

When you teach all of your daycare kids starting at 12 months on all about "LightPoot"...my little one I have now is now watching videos of Gord and listening to The House You Live In. He points to the pics in the room and says 'ggg'''gggg'' when I ask "where's Gord?" He's done this for 2 months now and is 15 months old...

He does the sign language for more with his fingers and points to his ear..

lol

You're borin' some stranger in bar (who couldn't possibly care any less) with how cool it is that Gord counts off "The Wreck" in waltz time with "Uh-one-two-three-four-five-six..".. etc..

supaiblue, that last was hilarious!
You are definitely a Gord fan when you write parodies of his music, as I did in about 1978: "The Wreck of the H.M.S. Hood", which grew out of an incident about a radio-controlled boat that sank in a lake after an encounter with another boat.

"The legend lives on, from the island on down, to the dock at the edge of the water.
The lake, it was said, never gave up her dead, 'til the H.M.S. Hood went under.
When launched from the shore, she weighed in at no more, than the fly, as compared
to the swatter.
That good ship and true, was about to get chewed, by the wrath of a ship that
was bigger".

The idea hit me a couple days after the event, and the song seemed to write itself!

Talk about finding the oldies online! I don't believe in my time here I've seen this one.

I know I did a similar one in 2004 about "how eager a person is to get the Harmony CD."

I know I'm pretty dran close to a fanatic. I flew on a commercial airline for the first time in 2008,just to see his shows in L.A. and San Diego!

Another way would be never leaving the Corfid site.

haha, the bossman is so not happening... people always find it difficult to boss me around...haha. the other song is a good idea, but i actually have "Beautiful" as my husband's ringtone. We were married to that song and it is my all time favorite song, so it seemed appropriate. nice "chatting" with you.

yes, it is so, soooooo fantastic to have all those ringtone opportunities. "when children had wings" is one friend, my neice and nephews are "sundown LIVE", and another friend is "somewhere USA." the best part is I wake up every single morning to "If you could read my mind."

You've met Gordon and the band 13 times(? = think this is right), you have three guitar picks from Terry Clements in your closet lockbox in a sandwich bag with your kids names taped inside (my kids have met them 5 or 6 times also), and Barry Keane calls out your last name when he sees us at a meet-n-greet and asks about our kids.

I've asked Gordon a few times for a pick, but he says the flat picks are "hard to find a good one". (Guitar players can ponder that statement) I don't play guitar, but I think Gordon wants you to remember and savor his music, rather than have a 'souvenir' such as a pick or a t-shirt.

Probably just as well. If I had one of his picks I would probably build a shrine around it and charge admission !!!!!!!

OK. I'll try one.

When you think the songs he writes and records are better than the remakes.

DellroyGM,

I think the last time supaiblue posted was in 2001 so I wouldn't expect a response. But you're right the post was pretty funny!

Ah, well Bill!
I thought of another one...a post elsewhere on this site brought it to my attention.
You KNOW you are a Lightfoot fanatic when your reaction to an item for sale on Ebay is "WHAT!? You're SELLING YOUR COPY of SONGBOOK!? WHAT ARE YOU THINKING???"
