"oh, say can you see
My best friend is me
I'm a friend I can use"

Man, I play "Long Way Back Home" all the time when I'm playing out. No one ever guesses who wrote it. That "Back Here On Earth" is a little hidden treasure. Probably the most obscure of the UA albums but possibly the best of them (though there is alway "Lightfoot!").

I always wondered what this line meant...

"I'm a real bad loser, that's what I am, gonna grab my hat n' my hexagram"

What does Gord mean by "hexagram"?

At the San Diego Concert said he was goin to sing a romantic love ballad that had the word tow in it. He enjoys telling that story and I too believe that the word toe was he only rhyme he could come up with. It is a beautiful song. His wife considers it their song. Love It.

I'm at work so I'm doing this from memory so I think it goes something like the above. Kinda sounds like he is saying "floatsome".

You know those type of songs where you can't quite make the lyric and your mind plays scrabble.

Does anyone know the word?

I'll handle the former and leave the ladder for another:

Ok, here's the plan. Have your people get in
touch with Gord's people and have a trivia
game designed all around Gord! That way, when we're all long gone there will be something left for future generations to go
with his music. Like Beethoven, Tennyson, etc. he is a classic and will stand the test
of time! Besides, I wouldn't mind having something like that RIGHT NOW! Hurry Char!

midnightmisty

Actually, we did do that last November! Not that we contacted anyone, but at our "Lightfoot convention" in Toronto, we had a 2 hour trivia contest. Our teams were color coded, and the Bitter Green team won. The other teams were Approaching Lavendar, Red Velvet, and Big Blue.

I can't promise another one at the 2nd annual convention in May, they do take forever to write, and the players were just too darn good!

Re: Reminds me of the redwoods and moss-covered ground, from Bells of the Evening!
This is a real fun topic...I had a lot of trouble remembering which song it was so was walking around the office muttering that line repeatedly. Someone asked me what I was doing and I started to explain and he cut me off with, "Oh you and your Gordon Lightfoot!"
Here's one: "got a letter from a girl who ------------- (that's probably too easy).."There would be no sweet reunion, there would be no......."
Keep 'em coming!

"Got a letter from a girl who found the time to write
To her lonesome boy
Somewhere in the night
She sent me a railroad ticket, too,
To take me to her lovin' arms
And the big steel rail gonna carry me home
To the one I love!"

"There would be no sweet reunion
There would be no wedding bells"
from The Patriot's Dream.

How about: "Their simple life has ended . . ."

or: "But not the way I feel . . "

"Their simple dream has ended, their toys are put away..." Lost Children, Sunday Concert.

"...barreness, where Nature takes its course," Whispers of the North, Tattoo.

Oh, I really love this, it's so fun!

How about:

"Gonna buy me..........."

"My husband he could........"

Don't know if the last fill-in was directed to Char or all. If it was for Char, I apologize for jumping in...As I've said before, I'm very new to this and don't know the rules of "nettiquette" so please forgive and help me learn! Thanks!!!

"Gonna buy me a long white robe . . ."
Rich Man's Spiritual, 1st song on first album.

The other one I need help with.

Are you all ignoring my "fill in the blanks" set forth above?? I'm beginning to feel like Bruce Willis in "The Sixth Sense"--maybe I'm not really here.

Oh boy is my face red...and confused! Now
I'm not sure if it's ..their toys are put away" from Lost Children...or, "their simple lives have ended, must they be born to die again," from Peaceful Waters...HELP!!

The other one I need help with..

Re: "my husband he could....." think the opposite end of the Gord chronological spectrum .....

Here's one, that happens to be one of my all-time favorite lines:

"I've got one life to live......."

oh boy is my face purple! I just realized that the line from lost Children is "their little games have ended, their toys are put away..." I'm doing all this from memory, and sometimes memory...well, you know...memory sometimes...I forget what I was saying..haha
So,it's gotta be from Peaceful Waters, talking about the falling leaves, I think...

Jay, you have stumped this band! I can't think of "but not the way I feel.." all that runs through my head is "the way you look tonight" which I KNOW is not it. Can you give a couple more words?

Right on my fill-ins. How about "And you've got ten dollars and you'll be all right.."

OK, guts, here it is:

"But not the way I feel . . .

I don't really care what happens now
It's catch me if you can
For no matter what occasion should arise
She likes to sympathize
Cause Roseanna, yes Roseanna, rules my heart!"

I enjoy this because I am a GL lyric aficiando (sp?) at least through Summertime Dream.

If you are out there and still playing, how about:

"Like any wandering child ________"

"I will not lose what I have won ________"
________

Okay, here we go!
"Like any wandering child in the wilderness
wild and untamed by .." it's very loud and busy here at work and I can't concentrate Anyway, the song is...the song is..... I CAN'T THINK OF IT! "I think I heard, someone stir-ring.."can't get the darned title!

"I will not lose what I have won.
Come to the door, my pretty one, put on your rings and precious things..."

Song For Stephen Foster....(Your Love's Return) there's a killer song if you've ever lost someone...and who hasn't!

This really is so much fun...it's quite a challenge!
So, how about my earlier one about "You've got ten dollars and you'll be all right"??

And if I'm guts, you're blood!! (LOL)
It's "Is There Anyone Home", of course!
And another one for you:
"Where are the ones who will lead us now...."

<< And another one for you:

Is it "Who are these ones who will lead us now, To the sound of a thousand guns. Who'd storm the gates of Hell itself, to the tune of a single drum? From Protocol
