Who's music (other than GL's) would you buy without having heard it first?
Among that group of artists was there anytime you bought a record/disc and been disappointed with it?

Lyle Lovett, Kristofferson, Hal Ketchum,and
Mary Chapin Carpenter come to mind right now.I love them all and never been disappointed in anything. Seen them all in concert and would go again and again.

i'd add Jimmy Buffett and James Taylor to the list too.

Only two others, without hearing a sample that is: Frank Sinatra and Donovan. Never been burned on anything I bought of theirs.

Char--I like your choices--especially Hal. I've seen him many times and buy his music without having heard it first--it never disappoints. I would also add Nanci Griffith to the list.

Johnny Cash, Enya, R.E.M, Everclear, Willie Nelson, Neil Diamond and the runner-up to Lightfoot...Bob Dylan. Dylan is great.

Thanks for reminding me, I guess I figured Dylan was assumed, OOPS. He's got quite a catalog but I think I'm in the high 80 or low 90% of his CDs.

I have every Lightfoot album and CD. I never heard any of them before I bought them and was never disappointed. I would list Rodney
Crowell, Bruce Robinson, Adam Carroll, Pat Green. You can probably tell I live in TX.

Lyle is a little too "Nashville" for me, a transplant Texan.

For anyone that hasn't hear of Bruce Robison (spelled his name wrong), especially his latest CD "Country Sunshine" you really should try it. I think he's the most talented writer/performer I have heard in years! Can't wait for his next one!

Gord of course.

I'll go with Lyle Lovette, Bryan Ferry, John Hyatt, Gregg Allman, Chris Issack,
Keb Mo, Maybe Bruce Springsteen without the e-Street band. When I'm in a
mood, I'll pick up Iggy Pop.

The only disappointment was Lyles cd with the penguins on it.

Bruce is not really my category with the E-Street band. By himself though he
writes the most wonderful ballads. Tunnel of Love cd is excellent. He did a
wonderful job with the song for the movie Philadelphia, and the one he wrote
for the 911 concert.

If you haven't heard Keb Mo, this guy is great! I don't like the blues, it usually
makes me want to jump out a window, but he offers hope in his songs, and he
is just really damn good. His best cd is "Just Like You".

My 2 cents.

I'd have to go with Rodney Crowell. He is my idol and I have everything he has out to date. Most of those were purchased with no preview. He has a new CD recorded that will be released, hopefully, this fall. As soon as Amazon has it listed, I'll buy that one in advance as well. Not to mention that he is working on a book that will soon be released. Not only can he write great songs but he writes wonderful prose as well. I've read several articles and short stories that he's written.

I buy John Hiatt without reservation. I love his songs. I used to buy Eric Clapton without question, but I'm more carefull now after his last couple solo CD's. I buy every old Charlie Rich CD's album cassette I can get my hands on; the older the better.
