Is this the old map? I don't see me on there. I added myself, but I still don't see me. Maybe it takes awhile to show up.

Cathy - it could take a bit to show up...
time traveler - just follow the instructions on the right side of the page...where it says 'add to map'

I still don't see me on there. Char, how long does it take to show up? Maybe I did something wrong when I did the entry.

Mystery solved!!!
this topic at:-
http://www.corfid.com/ubb/ultimatebb...c;f=1;t=004106
is entitled as you can see "CORFID member map "
Cathy I am sorry to have to tell you that you may have forgotten that a few months ago the original corfid map at:-
http://www.frappr.com/?a=showmap&gid=62138&landing=1
had a fit and we thought it had been deleted ,Then in fact the multi-coloured lady started a second map at:-
http://www.frappr.com/sitdownyoungstranger/
I found that on an older topic called confusingly
"CORFID member map" at:-
http://www.corfid.com/ubb/ultimatebb...558;p=2#000068
(See her posting on page 1 posted March 26, 2006 15:55 )
Note that neither of the above topics should be confused with BillW's initial and laudable attempt to get the ball
rolling by posting in a new topic that he entitled .... you guessed it "Corfid Member Map" at:-
http://www.corfid.com/ubb/ultimatebb...=003558#000000
BillW gave the original frappr link to the original map that was started by Al in a small talk topic
that I have just tried to find, but it would appear that it has long since been deleted by Al to reduce confusion and
duplication of replies but it was indubitably entitled "Corfid Member Map"
(Yes I checked my trusty dictionary and it is "indubitably" not "undubitably" as in "undoubtedlty"
such is the wonder of the English language!!!)
Anyway Cathy to refresh your memory take a look at this screenshot of that other map
(the other three markers were put there by Char, Auburn Annie and myself)
only the four of us signed in on the new map because very soon thereafter the original map was accessible again

That is strange Lizbet because when you open a frappr map page there is a supremely clear "add to map" box

As a sideline to this discussion, a bit earlier I opened the original map page and noticed something loading up as indicated by a whirling graphic (see connecting in the screenshot above). By and by a new feature opened; an obvious chat room facility.I tentativelty typed in " Hi" and found that I was showing as "guest 4314 " or something.
and as a test and to try to talk to myself I also opened the SDYS frappr map page where I was now guest4214 in that second chat room
Several other guests came and went to all of whom I said "Hi" but got no response until eventually another guest say "guest 5377" said "hello"
I typed my name and found that my fellow guest was mouse
I commented that it would be hard to chat to a bunch of indistinguishable guests and I was already confusing both of us by appearing as two differently numbered guests. Then I opened a second SDYS frappr map page and tried the log in feature using my email address as directed
Wherupon in the chat rooms on both this new page and my first page I was showing not as a plebian guest but as John Fowles. Sharron (Mouse) then did likewise and we were able to converse:-

But note that whilst I was still logged on at SDYS Sharron also logged on there but could not see me in that chat room (nor me her),
So we concluded that one could only be logged in to one map at a time,.
Makes sense as I never actually logged on at the original room only at the SDYS page. Yet it automatically changed my identity in the original room from "guestxxxx" to John Fowles
I found this interesting as it could be a way around the dilemma of the Friday chats, where if like me you have a newish computer without Java applet support and do not feel inclined to install and use the recommended mIRC program there is, other than a couple of Javascript based chat programs that I have not yet found to be reliable, no common way to organise a chat room.
Thus if some of you wish to repeat our liittle experiment and report back here I would be gratified
Other than that it could be that an AOL Instant Messenger chat room could be set up but the drawback there I think is that one has to be invited in by somebody already there.
John Fowles
Having drafted that I went to check the "add to map" box and discovered that in the last couple of hours all the pins on the map have been removed and instead you now see

All I can say is that if that is somebody's idea of a ioke it is in very poor taste and completely anti-social.
I can remember somebody here using that word "morbid" I think on corfid posibly in respect of the map but the search facility here could not find it.
Nor could Google but I found this "cheesy" comment instead at:-
http://www.martiniboys.com/Montreal/party-883.html

"Montreal Parties

Thu. Nov. 9 :: Gordon Lightfoot :: Salle Wilfrid Pelletier

With an extremely loyal fan base, Lightfoot is most known for his 12-string guitar performances. He has been playing in bands since 1965, but the music never gets old. Like the man himself, Lightfoot’s music aged very well. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about most types of cheese.

Tickets are $49.50 - $72.50 @ Admission, call 514-790-1245

Salle Wilfrid Pelletier, 260 boulevard de Maisonneuve Ouest, Montréal, QC

John,

I don't think it's a joke. The map used to have a moderator of sorts - I guess they decided to close it.

I'm thinking we can start a new one, who's game ?

I have no control or idea about the functions of the FRAPPR map.
It is completely separate from this website/message board. I, like you added my name the same way as everyone else...

OK Bill if I understand you correctly you are saying that somewhere there is a supreme being called a moderator (not to be confused with our own dear Charlene of course) at frappr who moderates all messages and activity on the plethora of maps to check for such sins as obscenities or sedition or antii-Bush sentiment or terrorist plots, whatever and if he/she finds anything that he/she objects to he/she then has the power to not only delete all such messages etc unilateraly with no communication with the map's "owner", but also reduce the membership to zero and delete all their photographs and location pins and also substitute any artwork he/she objects to with any other piece of graffiti whether relevant or not?
I am sorry Bill but I don't buy that at all and that cannot possibly be the correct answer in our case.
consider the facts:-
at about 1:30 PM EST yesterday I had been chatting to Sharron during which I had opened the corfid map as part of my logging in testing and am certain that the corfid map had its previous compliment of over 100 pins. certainly the initial screen showing the USA was as stuffed with pins as I expected to see it .I know it was about 1:30 because we broke off our chatting I think because Sharron wanted to go and have lunch and I remember thinking it was early for her but about the right time for me . Bear in mind that probably only a few visits to the site have been made recently.
I was extremely surprised therefore to discover when I came back after lunch an hour or so later that when Ichecked he corfid map the original copy of Florian;s discussion forum logo had been supplanted by the silly slogon as illustrated in my screenshot that I showed above

Note that when I made that screenshot unfortunately I did not include the address bar but I assure you that it was
http://www.frappr.com/?a=showmap&gid=62138&landing=1
and that moreover the page at the time of my sceenshot declared as my screenshot clearly shows that
"corfid now had 0 members (0 people 0 places)"
the other strange thing is that later and now when trying the same link that silly graphic had in turn disappeared

Note that the address bar now is definitely
http://www.frappr.com/?a=showmap&gid=62138&landing=1
Today I recalled that when the original map disappeared before, somebody (possibly Violet tried to start a new "corfid" map but was told to get lost so I though I would try

No way Jose
I then had bright idea.
If violet's replacement map is at:-
http://www.frappr.com/sitdownyoungstranger/
and he link that worked earlier
http://www.frappr.com/?a=showmap&gid=62138&landing=1
now produces rubbish as shown above
then possibly the more logical equivalent address for our "corfid" page would be:-
http://www.frappr.com/corfid
So I tried that and was told unequivocably

I also point out again that I am reasonably certain that somebody here at one time concocted the rhyming slogon "morbid corfid" but as I said no amount of searching these forums or googling will prove my point but I definitely remember it so I feel that one possible explanation is that that phrase was part of one of one of the many topics started here recently then deleted by the originator. In my considered judgement this act of vandalism is not the work of some outside troll or any moderator at frappr who just happenned to think it clever to rhyme corfid with morbid but an inside job.
What bothers me now is that if we all spend precious minutes adding our names and pictures to the SDYS map what likelihood is there that whichever hooligan played this stoopid prank
will get it into his tiny mind to repeat the exercise sometime
So Bill I am sure that something far more sinister has happenned here
And I repeat it is a joke in exceedingly poor taste.
I do not know what to suggest other than for you as the person who initially brought the corfid member map (as created by Watchman Al) to the attention of the General Discussion Forum
should report this problem to frappr and ask them to investigate and see if anyone else has sufferred this stupidity, and of course how could anybody able to wreak havoc in this way anyway
John
The alternative is obviously to do nothing and all of us keep our fingers crossed and hope that the corfid map will one day reappear just as it did the last time

Hello John,

What I was thinking is that if one knows the Admin password, which you saw is required to start a map, then one could 'delete' anything or 'close' the map entirely. Of course I may be wrong but the inclusion of the 'Adios' message sort of confirms my suspicions, eh?

I also remember the topic which included the 'Morbid Corfid' references. But since I have no copies or screen shots I don't want to speculate. Of course the culprit may show up here to laugh at our dismay and confusion, which should prove enlightening if not downright fun, LOL.

Why don't we poll the corfid members and come up with a popular alternative name and start a new map. That would also give us a more current glimpse of the 'active' members. Of course the lurkers and privacy fans will probably decline to pinpoint their location on a map but that's OK too.

How about 'Gordon Lightfoot' or 'Lightfoot Fans' as a possible map name ? And you can keep the Admin password locked away somewhere.

Borderstone is a wonderful choice, Bill
I had trouble following you there John, but I did finally see the little square with the Morbid Corfid and Adios Buckaroo, also points to Borderstone being a good choice.

You might try editing your profile?

It took me some figgerin' out, but I got on the map. It's hard for me to explain how.

I did that, AZ. But my problem is, I still don't seem my marker. It shows no markers in Maine. Other people say they can see it. Maybe it's a Maine thing.
