Saturday Night in Cerritos . . .

. . . a lyric, melodic Bass danced counterpoint to Drums-as-Orchestral-Percussion; as Keyboard-of-Many Colors slipped in then hid; as Guitars dipped the delicacy in Honey.

Above it all, floated the Soul-Surviving Sensibilites of the Soul we’d come here to hear: Gordon Lightfoot,. Counted out by critics, and very nearly Counted-Out along with Big Blue, The Blessing brought him back to us.

Songs of old; songs of new; songs along the June Bug river coursing thru him.
Bittergreen Harmony, People and Rain (of the Rainy Day and Early Morning kind Pony Man fantasy, Windmill chivalry . . . and Minstrilsy.

Songs of the High Seas; of Schooners and Scrimshaw; of Triangles and Tradewinds; and of an island called Christian and the proud Silver Heels. Restless and Beautiful, at once.

More relaxed than before w/ jests and "do-overs" The smile and the eyes told the tale. Of praises, thanksgiving, of breath and the road. "When I stand on my own sod, it feels so good to be home by God." Tonight he was on his own sod.

Being one who has ridden the same river right along, thru rapids and onward, to Where Peaceful Waters Flow. Thru times when ya’ had to portage your own boat in search of deep water again. From ’65 on thru ’05, from then on thru now: I stood in awe tonight as I did all those nights years ago.

And as always, I listened with eyes closed.

The Rez,

Gord: Thanks for Shadows - I remember.

"And as always, I listened with eyes closed."
(My favourite piece from an evocative review that lived up to all expectations ... )

Hmmmm . When you see the Rez has posted you know to expect something special. Anyone who has been exposed to the Rez's written word knows we have a seriously talented individual among us.
I don't think it would be out of turn to say that while we love it how do you respond to something like that ?
U R a special one R. ( warm hugs from across the sea ....)

I think Gord may just have realized that every stage is "home" to him now...regardless of where it is.
The "House of Gord" has branched out...

and he's coming home in 23 days!

great review Rez!

Rez, it's amazing how you can take so few words and say so much. Very nice review!

I am brand new and learning how to use this site so if I mess up just consider the source. John, AKA ClosetCanadian, invited me to the Cerritos concert as we have been fans for 30+ years. I heard Gord preview Sundown in Berkley, CA and knew it was an instant hit. I must say that I fell in love all over again at the concert. He is the warmest and most wonderful modern poet I can think of and although he strains to get the voice where he wants it, he makes me melt and gives me goosebumps when I hear him. I have had his songs in my mind ever since the concert and I can be caught singing along and humming during the day. Harmony to all!

Yeah, Linda, me too.

All this melting and goosebumps . . . and I'm a guy! But I melt. And my Goose Bumps.

Good to sit at your corner, Linda. And John, you ol' sly ClosetCanadian. You, too.

As before, why wait? Let's Get Together, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah (no that was Haley Mills and Haley Mills.)

Oftimes I sit, even w/ the price of petrol, in my 2001 Honda Accord CD Player - turn on the air - turn up the Gord - and, as always, listen w/ eyes closed.

Well well Rex
I was unfortunately only able to speak to you very briefly at Cerritos on Saturday so
I did not pick up that you were of British descent so am rather surprised at your use of the UK word for gasoline!!
Whilst replying I can add to other comments about the attention seeking idiot (read lying sod or SOB) from Lakewood, from my vantage point up in the gods (front row cent(e)re) of the third (highest) balcony I have to say it would have been obvious to anybody with such a view if there had been a stream of people without a gruntle
vacating their seats and heading for the exit as he in his delerium postulated.LWM's claim is simply preposterous and quite stupid IMNSHO.
OK there were a few empty seats (including two next to me) where people failed to turn up and thereby missed one of life's rare treats
