Yes, if it sells for his asking price, it will set a record for this guitar. But it isn't impossible. I think that one sold for over $8000, and I know that one sold for $7750 this year (also hand autographed). This is a sunburst, which is rarer, so one can argue it is worth more. It will be interesting to see if it sells at all. He is accepting offers, but I am guessing he won't part with it for less than $7k, and there aren't that many GL fans willing and able to pay that much for the guitar.

Yeah, $7K would put me into willing but wouldn't do a thing for able. I love the look of the thing and already know about the sound. The autograph is a little icing on the cake.

The instant drop d tuner is pretty cute. I think I'd leve it there but would make sure I got the original tuning head as well.

A boy can dream...

Good morning everyone! This will be a hard one for me to pass up; as I have collected lots of Gord guitars... will be interested to see if it sells for his price. My "best offer" was turned down at $5K.

Sorry. This is a nice guitar but way too much money especially in this market. Admittedly Martin only made 61 of these the year GL himself turned 61 The list price was $4-$5,000 plus another $250 for sunburst top and probably sold new for $3 to $3,500 tops plus lifetime warranty to the original owner. I paid 60% off list for my last two Martins and there are plenty of signature models and customs available. I'd pay $10k or more for GL's 1948 D-18 in a heartbeat.

The dropped D tuner is cute but useless. It only takes a couple of seconds to tune the low E down to D or you can tune all six strings down a whole step and capo up two frets to standard tuning. Then if you want to go to drop D you place the capo on the first five strings and leave the sixth string open to the D note.

I saw a video on you tube of a lady backstage after a show asking Gordon to autograph five prints of the Fitzgerald and she bonked him in the face with one of them. For that reason, I am against autographs because often times, people try to turn a profit like the person trying to sell this guitar. True to form, GL designated a portion of the proceeds to the scholarship fund in his name at the Great Lakes Maritime College while someone took a signature model and tried to use it to gouge some unsuspecting buyer.

Personally, I'd rather skip the autographs and hand my Martin D-35 sunburst to Gord and my OM-35 sunburst to Terry and ask them to play a verse. Think of the Karma and these guitars go to my sons when I leave this celestial ball.
