It's rather quiet today so I toss out this simple question. Anyone know what "stemming gold" means as in "See the drunkard in the tavern Stemming gold to make ends meet"?
This one has me stumped for a long time.

I actually asked Gord this summer what he meant by that, and he said he meant a handout, sort of bumming for money.

Thanks John and Jenney, (and also all who contributed to the past post on this subject!). I've been digesting this a bit at a time this afternoon. I think we got the "techinical" explaination of where a figure of speech might have developed. And of coarse, a brief definition for "the man" himself....
