Default 'The Irish boys'- death notice post

Those of us who were fortunate to attend the May 2001 Lightfoot Convention in Toronto, will remember, with great affection, the 'Irish boys'.
I met them on the flight over from London. There I was sitting beside these two Irish guys and as happens on long haul flights, we got to talking. Jonathan, the younger, asked me my reason for travelling to Toronto. I would not have normally confessed to a total stranger that I was flying some 4000miles to attend a concert, but something made me say: 'I'm going to see Gordon Lightfoot at the Massey in Toronto'. His eyes grew round and he looked at his companion and they both laughed aloud. They were travelling from Ireland to attend the same concerts! Coincidence? I think not. I invited them to join our gang. David, Jonathan's father, and lifelong Lightfoot fan, was beside himself. He was so thrilled to be among other Lightfoot lunatics.
They fitted in so well, joining us at the Char-B-Q and at the Gord M&G. I have kept in touch with them ever since. Jonathan was married in December and wrote me just yesterday with some worrying news. His father, David, is seriously ill with cancer of the liver and although he looks fantastic in the wedding photos, he is very sick. I thought those of you who met them would want to know. Add him to your prayer list, please. Send healing thoughts to David.
Thank you.

Oh, what a bummer. I remember both of them very well.
I'll send some positive thoughts their way.

Default Very sad news - David Bamford - Irish guys

You will remember I posted news of the Irish Boys a few weeks ago, asking for prayers for David Bamford. This morning, I received the sad news that he had, very sadly died, last Thursday. I am sure those of you who met him in May 2001, will want to know. I attach the email below.

Bru,

Dad passed away on Thursday morning. Funeral
yesterday.

It all happened very quickly - only in hospital for 24
hours.

At the funeral service, Rev. Erskine mentioned Dad's
favorite song - "Shadows", and read out a line.

oh dear, how sad. I was just yesterday looking at Massey 2001 pics and wondering how things were with him.
Very, very sad. I'm sure the e-mail I have for Jonathon is out of date so please pass on my deepest regrets for his sad loss.

And pass on mine too, Bru. He was a very nice man. What a shame.

Brings tears to my eyes, Bru. They were a joy to meet and I remember talking with the father and his remark that Lightfoot is quite literally a genius.
Please pass on my condolences.

I'm very sorry to hear this Bru. Dan probably has emailed you already about the card he had signed and was going to send. Such a shame. I'm glad I had the opportunity to meet David. Please pass my codolences on to Jonathan.

Thanks everybody for your words. I shall be printing out all messages and sending them to Jonathan, together with the card which sadly will arrive too late for his Dad to enjoy.
Thanks, Jen, for the report. I wish I could have been there!
