Gord stopped in to catch a Blue Jays game in Florida the other day and sang the anthems! I hope he does that back home here in Toronto when I am in attendance! He has sung at Toronto Maple Leaf hockey games as well. My three fave things - Gord, baseball and hockey - oh yeah - make that four - and chocolate!

Charlene.... This reminds me of Gord. singing "Alberta Bound" at the opening of the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics, I think Ian Tyson also sang "Four Strong Winds" on the same occasion, what fantastic stuff !!!

As for sports, unfortunately you never get to see the worlds greatest spectator sport, "Australian Rules Football"

Keep smiling Ron

The Calgary olympics - 1988 - tht was incredible - all those freezing people clapping along to Alberta Bound and the dancers performing their steps - it was a wonderful thing to see. Gord looked great in his sweater and Ian in his long cowboy coat. What a pair.!

What kind of accent does Gord have? Is sort of choppy like Northerners, slow and laid back like Southerners, does he use perfect grammer, etc.?

Duncan You half to keep an eye on the Newsgroup
at:-
http://www.newsgroup.shorturl.com
then you would see things like the recent posting of a link by Doug Kirk a.k.a. plumguru2 to a small real Media file containing a full 35 minute Lightfoot radio interview a few years back with a fairly ignorant Art Bell
or click on this link:-
http://groups.google.com/groups?dq=&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&safe =off&selm=20031225014121.11786.00001080%40mb-m25.aol.com

In addition and if you half the thyme to also peruse Valerie's site thoroughly you will find on this page:-
http://www.gordonlightfoot.com/Inter...Articles.shtml
a link to another archived interview (from WQNA radio)
both will reveal that Gord has a very fine Canadian axcent

A lot of people on TV will sing the National Anthem alright till it gets near the end, then they slow way down and start all their high-pitch yodeling and crap like that and I can't stand it! Why can't they just sing it normal to the very end? The same thing is done with Christmas carols to. But anyway, did Gord do any of that when he sang it? because I didn't watch it.

This was in April 1986 I think (cool weather/long sleeves) - at EXHIBITION STADIUM probably (SKYDOME wasn't built yet) in Toronto in a pre-season game possibly. The Jays are in home white.. Tom Henke (The Terminator) played from 1985 - 1992 . (Florida didn't get teams until 1993 and 1998) Lamp played in Toronto in 1985/1986.

^ He looks so classy in a suit!

I cannot picture Gordon messing up the National Anthem like some American singers over-embellish our "Star Spangled Banner." I have no doubt that he is very respectful of "O, Canada" & its meaning.

Watching Gordon on TV during the 1988 Winter Olympics (STILL my favorite Winter Olympics after all these years) was truly a highlight. A friend of ours debated whether or not to tell us that Gordon would participate in the Opening Ceremonies. On one hand, he wanted to surprise us. On the other hand, I guess he figured we'd want to videotape the performance back then. He ultimately told us, so we were able to record it! I'm glad he did, since we would have been very disappointed not to capture that on tape! I don't think we have that VHS tape any more, so I'm glad it's on Youtube!
