I'll hazard a guess that it has something to do with certain Mr Van Horne. But what I really want know is who is "Sly" when he's at home.(could it be Archie's little brother??)

Hey Ron, how you doin ? We meet again, in this town, that is not big enough, for the both of us, no ? Geo steve slips his duster back around behind his holster.... ..Naw... I won't go down that road again tonight...lol... it IS fun ,though. Hope you've been well. You, Sir, have gotten the second ambiguous case in this list ! I must be slippin.... That is a totally valid answer.
Why do I not think of the IYCRMM's ? The BIG ONES What am I, a mind reader ? lol...
Actually, I had intended "Ring Neck Loon", which works, too, thusly:
(ya like that little green/white ring neck thing in the song name ? )
GL to wit:
Ringneck loon, you can't rest, you're a loonie and you don't care less
Ringneck loon, my old friend, been a loon since he don't know when - Ring Neck Loon ~gl
But you get Q115 Ron, because we settled awhile back that if I surveyed for all possible ambiguous cases, we'd never play the game ! lol... then again, I think it was jj suggesting I build a relational database for GL lyrics. Very generous with my time, he is - lol j/k jj ! But,
Off-the-shelf relational database' are rife in "Vanilla" form, it would only take a little customizing and then of course the most laborious part -the data entry - but a coded info dump would do, the source of that GL dataset is what I am not aware of... maybe I'll ask Wayne Francis at Wayne's World...party on Garth ! I hope everyone knows I am kidding, the site is: Lightfoot! and if you havn't heard of it ( a new fan, or..you been on Mars or something) its well worth spending time at: http://www.lightfoot.ca ( Lightfoot!)
Wayne,& PlumbGuru2 (Now "Doug" I think), Shirley H.,& Talbot10 -do you remember?) was one of the originals at the GL chat that PRECEEDED alt.music.lighfoot and danged if I remember the name.... I was drooling rather heavily then in a body cast lol.....that was when I had the original "Mapman" handle ( now taken many times over, then GISMAN, now taken many times over, and of course now my current arcane handle you'd have to be a quasi-tellurroid monk to want..lol... that IS a relevant term... lol....other than "monk"
Back to Ron's winning, BTW. CONGRATULATIONS ,RON, Q115....don't know.... thus:
I don't know where we went wrong but the feeling's gone and I just can't get it back - If You Could Read My Mind ~gl
OK that leaves 4 more Q's 116,117,118,& 120

Jesse Joe, I'm sorry I must have actually overlooked your post when I wrote Ron's winning Q115....don't know.... answer for IYCRMM, despite the ambiguous case. As I know you are allready aware, even given this odd case of my not seeing your AND John's non-game post, Ron still wins it fair and square. The reason for writing this post is two-fold:
*Its a good illustrative case of the clue 'dots' factor to explain why your case would not work the way the games rules developed ( the dots are definitive as to where the clue word(s) can fit in the 'verse' of the song.
*Secondly, - to apologize for not responding in posted order. Lets go there
first. I can't figure out when I logged in and clicked on this thread's 'last page' -
I saw a fleeting glimpse of John's name and yours as I logged in and clicked 'last page' of this thread...thought I saw your names...thinking to myself 'hey great! some new players in the game'...then oddly, when the ostensibly current or 'last page' came up, all I saw was RM's - Ron's winning post for Q115. Weird. I am awaiting a third surgery for my eyes, from damage several years back in one of the ...accidents..causes crossed eyes in me. . but I have never had "fleeting, dissappearing things I could not see" . Don;t know if thats it, no matter, except for good manners in responding in chronological order. Sorry about that, Chief
Call IT VOODOO, I know, it had to be the new CERN LEP Hadron accelerator firing up. Those pesky protons colliding in opposite directions in a 15 mile loop through those "oops, another super-cooled magnet fell from the 300-foot ceiling" things that the former PO'd consortium, including some MIT whizzes, initially dug the tunnel for 300 feet deep and 15 miles in perimeter, and they'd allready progressed to magnet placement when the whole project changed hands, and MIT quipped [para] "All we know is they stole our tunnel..and then asked us to put the magnets in the rest of the way.."...lol... can't say as I blame 'em, but... seems it sent 'dark matter' spewing though the North American Continent. Spoof statement alert, to the left...If they'd just asked me, I could have told 'em Dark Matter has been known to exist in McDonald's Secret Sauce on the Big Mac for years. Easy.
Anyhoo, sorry for the overlook in proper response order. Nevertheless, as I mentioned as the other reason to post, this is a good illustrator of one of the few fine points of clue rules, and a few other minor things that can throw you, I thought you'd appreciate knowing...
You astutely associated "don't know" thusly: with
(My Notes in blue and in parens)
Quote:
Q115- "It's worth Believin" (the clue actually read as)
(Q115....don't know.... ) ( ...not ....I don't know.... - as I see you highlighted in your "patch" as part of the assumed clue words )
There's a warm wind tonight
And the moon turns the tide
When the stars take their ride she'll be leaving
Where she goes, I don't know (down here, the "I" )
-
Note: clue numbers, and related words in patches when corect, and correct song titles etc are in yellow - to visually draw them together. i.e
Q115....don't know....
I don't know where we went wrong, but...etc.
- "If You Could Read My Mind" - gl
we are also requested by Char to cite the song name and lyrics patch - as you did.....
Maybe most helpful of all is the following - the 'dots" clues/rules.I'll show them by writing three fictituous clues just to show dot placement...
Q997....cool lyrics....
Q998....cool end of verse lyrics
Q999 Cool start of verse lyrics....
Above, in 997, dots to left and right, with no caps at start,( unless a proper Noun i.e. Susan would not count) means the word(s) are neither at the end nor the start of the verse....
In 998, There are NO dots to the right, but there ARE dots to the left, means the word(s) given ARE at the END of the line of verse.
In Q999 - the capitalized first letter ( and not a proper noun with an explanatory note given), AND NO DOTS to the left, but there ARE dots to the right means the line of verse BEGINS with the clue word(s).
Hope that helps. If I give those clues as above, assume there will NOT be another word filling at what you're thinking of as maybe the END or START of a verse, such as the "I" you kinda added in your mind ( it IS in the song) but is does not make the clue "end of verse qualified", per the dots, in that case.
I hope this helps, actually it all makes sense for the players after once or so they actually all have said they thought of a song such as you did, but KNEW per the "dot rules" it could not have been the answer....so , other than a mistake here or there by me, for 120 songs/clues , its gone pretty smooth after we all kinda thought through what ended up as the dot rules...lol
Thanks for playin Jesse Joe.... please play more "Mon amis, pour le Francaise" - hey how 'bout them French apples now ?

All very good GeoSteve, Ron is the winner of Q115. Thanks for the explanation, I will try to guess another one. Good thread mon amis, it makes the wheels that are a bit rusted in the head, turn again !!!

well that was a dismal failure both attempts to reply ended up in the original non-cognoscenti thread. all very strange and disturbing
I forgot to say that before I replied the thread listing on the General Discussion forum only shows the one thread the original named
I also noted that on the alternative thread Steve edited his original starter posting and gave this reason
"Last edited by geodeticman.5; 08-05-2008 at 06:41 PM. Reason: change thread name garner more interest"
you vandal you!!!
I had previously found that trying to change a thread title is a waste of effort especially if others have already replied. Instead you have to delete your original posting (which then deletes the entire thread then start over), one reason as well as trying to catch typos that I try to remember to draft my postings and save them on my hard drive
Now I am far from sure that there are two threads.
I now see that posting #1 by Steve on this thread:-
does indeed mention Sly but it was back in August.
I still don't believe that there genuinely have been over 200 replies to this thread though

I've lost track. Between the expanded explanation of the "dot rules", and Mr. Fowles experiment with message board explosives, it's become confusing. I think we need a refresher on which of the posers 115 - 120 have been answered.
Ron , Jesse, John, and any other pour soul who came in to this fun thread to have fun today...apparently one person has had trouble - I will check it out.
I have been whacked in and out of a seizure for many hours since this morning....lucky I have not fallen out of the chair...lol...just glasses and hat on the floor. Sit tight everone.... no problemo.... breath deep John ole buddy.... I check it out, what is happening, apparently only to you, which is no reflection on you at all, nor any inference... I am having a little trouble here myself....so bear with me.....please....while I see....
QUICK ANSWER RON is Q115 and Q119 are answered, I'll check it out well, too.
I'll catch us up in a moment on current status. Jesse Joe's entry warranted some help so he'd know the dots rules, after posting that, (and everything going just fine as usual in and out of the thread, for you guys too as I understand, but John - I will look at what you are saying, and see...nobodoy else has had a problem....but I'll see.... thread's been puttin' along just fine.... : ) ) Hasn't it for you other guys - and gals ?
Sorry for the delay since this morning....after about 8:45 or somewhere in there, I had a seizure at my desk here, for several hours.....all is well now but I look back in and all hell has broke loose apparaently over just your posting trouble, John. I'll see what I can do.... my head is still clearing. These darn seizures suck - from the head injury. I am just coming back around a little while ago... what the Sam HE8* is going on ? lol.......
we all have been havin' a great time !
John - lemme see what is happening to you. I will, just breath deeeep. lol...please....
we have....fun in here.... lets not change that... please.... I'll check it out OK ?
Nothing is "single-handedly broken".
Ron - again, sorry for hang up since this morning....and to jesse et al trying to play, and to you too John... sounds like you are trying to play.... thanks !
John, are you upset so many have been having fun ? Or are you REALLY having posting trouble ? - seriously - no one else is having trouble with a 'parallel universe thread".
I do know i SAW your (John) and Jesses's posts this AM, then I did not, but I was just starting to have a seizure a little later.... i dismiss that, as I still posted just fine to reply to Ron and Jesse. John, while you were ranting and raving, I was preparing a glowing post to YOU, turned out 12,000 characters of welcoming you into the thread...apologizing for the delay in overlooking your post out of order this AM, and then I had the seizure... I've come back from it now, only to find you ....ANGRY ? in a simple lyrics game thread we just have fun in ? come on John, lighten up. I WILL see if there is a parallel thread.. hang in there. I am trying to see straight right now....take it easy on me please....my hands are still shaking from the damn seizure....
Char - if you see any of this falderall.... we've been having a great time all along... no thread parallel universes... but I will diligently try to see what happened to John, as he is a value'd member like anyone else...and I thought.... a friend...too.... come one, John !
sit tight everybody - lemme poke around... a few minutes, and I'll post simple game status in a few minutes.OKee doke ?
For what its worth, I've been in and out a few times of the seizure before I cleared my head about 20 minuts ago , fully coming too. Its scarey..Please ease off a little John OK ? I do appreciate it. Really. OK back in a few....

Reason: correcting a few gross mis-spellings..
I'm following along as best I can amongst the recent chaos and trying to concentrate on the actual postings that are relevant to the game.
keep on keepin on..
Sir John - play nice.. I don't understand what all the fuss is about or why you'd bother taking the time to harangue/question Steve instead of using that time to play the game .. this is the thread for the game and the posts are duly noted at 212 whether you believe it or not....
John, I've looked around, been in and out, there's no parallel thread.... the post count is real... I'm sorry if you had trouble logging in or finding things... I think I know what you've been having trouble with.... everythihg is fine that I can see...... just click on the the thread that has "GL Lyrics fan(atics) fun quizzers and more !" out in the listings in the general forum.. come in and have fun old buddy you're a welcome addition.. come on in...
IN general, Q's 115 and 120 are in fact answered correctly, leaving , as shown above, albeit more colorfully lol - the same outstanding questions//clues #''s 116,117,118, & 120
Have fun !
Everything is working fine. I had a post prepared for you John that explains and/or asks more Q's re: VanHorne (?) , Archie (?), & Sly - is Sylvestor Stallone.
Be happy to tell you more if you like.... but LET 's PLAY !!

Firstly sumptious apologies for creating the confusion.
I genuinely thought that there were two threads going here,
My own considered research now reveals that it was indeed Steve himself who sorry to say confused the issue
My evidence is that on page 9 (the first page)(if like me you have the replies listed as newest first otherwise it
will be on page 1) Steve started this thread with posting number one with the subject now showing there clearly as "Lightfoot lyrics challenge for GL cognoscenti - give it a try ! "
in that initial posting
which was on August 5 timed at 07:49 AM
steve had introduced his idea for his brilliant quiz under his original subject title
"GL Lyrics fan(atics) fun quizzers and more !"
However where he nearly caused an explosion was when later in the day according to his stated reason for editing his posting
"Last edited by geodeticman.5; 08-05-2008 at 06:41 PM. Reason: change thread name garner more interest"
that was unfortunately an incorrect action:-
I have previously found that although when editing a posting you can certainly try to edit the subject line the thread resolutely
retains whatever subject wording/title you originally used . I know because more than once after posting a new thread myself
I have noticed one of my stupid typos in my subject line and tried like Steve to edit it out.I found that the ONLY way to
correct this and then only if nobody has yet replied is to delete your first posting and thus the entire existing thread and start
over. That is what in this case young Steve SHOULD have done.
In fact the first reply by JohninCT on 08-06-2008, 08:57 AM
and one by steve himself at 08-06-2008, 09:19 AM
and ALL subsequent replies
still bear his original subject title
as was also his second batch posted on the next day 08-06-2008, 09:36 PM
Anyway having said sorry I will now address one of the outstanding posers
hmm Q116....more neon....REMAINS UNANSWERED
I did think of Go Go Round but without cheating I think that goes "Oh the neon lights were flashing..."
I cannot think of anything more illuminating so to speak so did Steve get the words wrong??
I am still amazed that there have truly been so many replies 200 plus for 19 questions!!I obviously omitted to read this thread for a long time and frankly when this issue arose I baulked at trying to check every page because as Ron knows you need to be named Job to wait while all the pages load on a dial up.In fact I had quickly looked at the first page using my "wondertoy" Nokia N800 Internet Tablet on WIFI broadband thanks to an open (unsecured) local connection it found . More about that later
SORRY everybody. Carry on guessing.
and talking of the French/Swiss border near Geneva as Steve was
I once had a most enjoyable week's skiing at the futuristic looking
French ski resort of Avoriaz a.k.a. Les Portes de Soliel where the piste map shows that the trails criss cross that border (that link is to the Avoriaz wiki}
click the small picture on that wiki page to get an idea of the awesome architecture of this "car free" resort:-
No not Carefree but no Highways there to be sure!!
see two splendid aerial views/piste maps are at:- http://www.digital-holidays.com/shar...riaz_T_map.jpg 990x690 pixels 252741 bytes
and http://www.thechaletexperience.com/a...S_pistemap.jpg 1300x 1142 pixels 351883 bytes
both aerial views actually show Lake Leman on whose shores is Geneva
Just looking at those maps brings back so many splendid memories of that vacation
well except that one of the crossing points meant descending what looked like a shear drop dubbed "The Wall of Death"!!
That was my second taste of skiing in France
(Of course I had 4 years of it in Montreal too)
I later went on to L'Espace Killy at Val D'isere/Tignes

BUT please keep on topic - my brain is gonna explode with all of the extraneous chaos and pictures!!!!!!!!!
I have no idea about problems with postings or what should or shouldn't have been done in titles etc. and playing the blame game on the board is not necessary.
It is giving me a major headache to just get thru your posts about that stuff..
Please post an answer (if you indeed do have one) to the quiz and leave it at that..
Oops sorry to upset you madame moderator
I was NOT trying to play the blame game .I was just pointing out that once a thread is started you cannot change its subject title wording by simply editing your original posting which I think is a perfectly valid point to raise here and useful information to bear in mind for the future
As for guessing I agreeI did rather bury my answer to phrase 116 ...more neon...
"I did think of Go Go Round but without cheating I think that goes "Oh the neon lights were flashing..."
I cannot think of anything more illuminating so to speak so did Steve get the words wrong??"
and I couldn't help thinking of Avoriaz when I read Steve's aside remark about "and I carry news from the French-Swiss bordernear Geneva" so having looked up some pictures I thought others might find them interesting too. apologies again if I was wrong

q116: jf, i think that line is from Home from de Forest (Kelley)...the neon lyric is used frequently, ie. in My Little Love also, but i think all stevo is after is All I'm After
