Carter: On the road again...
After a memorable performance at Royal Albert Hall yesterday we've moved down the road to Oxford England. Tonight's performance is with the Gord Lightfoot band and we will be performing at the New Theatre Oxford a lovely theatre with an 1800 seat capacity. Here's what my office looks like today:

Just got home from another great show. Knocked one off my bucket list by being the "Over me" guy after "Ribbon of Darkness" lol, I got a faint ripple of applause lol. Really good venue, great sound and a full house!!

Saw Gordy last night, but I was surprised how bad his voice has got.
Some songs he really shouldn't have attempted...

Having said that, 'Restless' was excellent.
The band were superb which made up for GL's voice.
How much longer can he keep singing ?

I do not think he'll ever give it up
I can remember being rather disappointed with his changed and I felt inferior voice as long ago as 1993 when I first heard the Waiting For You
CD (a surprise gift from close friend who had found it in Montreal after attending a friends wedding in Toronto.) As usual with any new Lightfoot album it grew on me and nowadays three of my favourites to listen to including the current Live renditioning are from that album (Restless, Wild Strawberries, I'd Rather Press On.)

I like his voice on 'Waiting for You', particulary 'Restless' which is my favourite track.
I didn't mean to be over-critical about the Oxford Concert, but anyone who there must have seen how Gordon struggled with some songs.
He virtually admitted it.

Hi. Its been a while since I have been here. I was at Oxford and yes Gord did struggle at times more so in the first set, but all die hard fans know what to expect. Must be a shock for somebody who has not seen him for years. I don't know what he did in the interval, but he came out all guns blazing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J4S0S1g1IRc

the actual video URL is

trying again with the "s" deleted
BINGO!
Sorry I do not know how to retrospectively re-aim the camera though

I would agree with your view re. the second half.
To me, the best song of the evening was 'Restless.'
As it is a later song ( as in '93 ) his voice had changed a fair bit by then anyway.
I found the main thing of the Concert was actually seeing Gord .
Back in 2008 I was at the Massey Hall and the feeling and real affection for Gordy came out in that concert.
Massey is a classic 'home' for Lightfoot.

I'm really pleased I went to Oxford.
This is the last time I will see my favourite singer live.

Martyn.

PS. I often use his line, ' I wish you good spaces in the faraway places you go' when writing to people leaving for a holiday.
When my sister-in-law was at University, I always quoted a GL line at the end of the letter.
I can always find a Lightfoot song for any situation I'm in.
Very reassuring...

Were do you start to choose your best song. My song of the night was ' Drink yer glasses empty ' I have always thought that would be a good song for a pub to play at closing time. I like ' Biscuit City' don't know if Gord has ever sang it live, in fact the Salute album has a lot of great songs.

We were at Massey 99 and 01 and this will be the last time I see him unless he comes back. I was told not to video so that's why its not right, still its better than nothing
