Friday night at Massey Hall. I wasn't sure anything could top the
emotions and quality of Weds nights performance, but this sure came
darn close! The set list was quite similar, the opening ovation was
close to Weds night, and far better than Thursday night. Gord came out,
and one could tell right away that he had more energy than the night
before. Not that Thursday's show wasn't good, it just didn't have
the same energy in the room that it did opening night. I'm not sure
it could! Friday came darn close though, from the opening ovation,
through the last song.

Two things happened Friday night that I have never seen before. The
first was during Ghost's of Cape Horn. Once in a while, someone will
whistle in the audience along with Gord. Friday night, I think everyone
in the Hall, especially in the balconies, whistled. The sound was
haunting, beautiful, remarkably in tune and time, and to use one of
Gord's favorite words, ethereal. I had to look around the Hall for a
moment to see if it was really happening! The band looked around as
well, smiling and chuckling, and Gord himself looked very amused and
pleased by it! It's hard to convey just how ethereal it sounded, I
don't have the words.

The second thing was during CRT. Gord had been joking around more than
usual in between songs, but never during a song. The band had been
chuckling about something during the second half, and it wasn't until
later I found out that some guy on an aisle seat in the center had
fallen asleep. Anyway, Gord got to the pause "and many are the dead
men......." when he uncharacteristically pointed and loudly said
"AND THERE'S ONE NOW!". The place went nuts! The band laughed,
Gord laughed, and everyone went crazy! I don't even remember if he
finished the song , but he must have. I sure can't remember ever
laughing that hard at a concert, especially during a song!

Saturday's concert was equally as good, with lots of family and
friends of the band and Gord in attendance. I spotted Ron Sexsmith, and
Peewee Charles in the audience along with lots of family. They all
looked delighted to be there again.

Hopefully Char will post far more eloquent reviews and comments than I
have, I'm still recovering from what turned out to be a 11 hour drive
home yesterday. To all of you out there, if you have a chance to go to
any upcoming concerts, do it! You will never regret it.

I just wanted to echoe Jenny's comments about the whistling in GOCH on Friday night-- the audience participation was really amazing and it was so perfect you would have sworn there was a group put aside just for the occasion. When I first heard it, I was looking around to see if there was something new -- then it quickly dawned that it was the audience.

Gord's kibitzing (sp)in the CRT was a real shock. His rendition was letter perfect to that point and when he added that in, it was a total laugh. And Jenny - he did finish the song ... LOL.

After not being able to see him for the last few years, I now feel that I have a lot of catching up to do .... hope to make another concert or two before year's end.

Best to everyone.

Such great reviews Jenney . Thanks from the "notsoblessed."

I saw a certain "superstar" artist rightly known for his specs. & top quality songs some years back. In what was presumably meant to be a wild moment he jumped on his piano at precisely the same moment in one of his major hits ("Crocodile Rock " ) as he did in a concert which was televised a month before. It gave the impression of being a rehearsed move and he lost me a touch as a live performer.

It must be great for those yet to attend a GL concert in the current tour that "every one has a different flavour" and every concert is an original.

That's a good laugh, He was really having fun and Massey Hall brings back a lot of child hood memories seeing Gord there. I saw the Friday night show and caught the second half of Sat. Show. The crowd was a little tough to work in at the Sat. show but it was great. He totally missed his belly button story and acknowledge it on Sat. night. The after party was really fun and Gord was great. You guys are true fans and I love that. Keep it up guys!!!!

Thanks for that, Jenney. Sounds like he was in very good form and enjoying every minute of it. Just don't tell me it was better than Massey 2001.

I thought I met everybody, I don't remember meeting you at Janices party, did you make it for Char's party? I love how Gord has gotten to be so relaxed. Anyway, Welcome to the group.

I was also confused at first, Brink, since I too thought I met everyone and didn't remember meeting Sarah...after reading that Sarah is "Big Barry's" daughter and Char's post about seeing her back stage, I realized that she was talking of the back stage after party (or maybe the Lightfoot family reunion party) and not ours. Maybe next time she'll join us

Obviously, I don't know how old you are, Sarah, but our youngest guest was 13 and he seemed to enjoy himself - so you're always welcome!
