I'm not a long time GL listener, having grown up more on Zepplin and old Genesis, but since I was a teenager, The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald has always touched me, the music and lyrics are so haunting. When I realized that it was written by this guy Gordon Lightfoot, I listened to some "albums" (dates me, I know) and liked what I heard. I really like music that tells a story, and GL's music does that more than any I'm familar with to this point. I haven't seen the Canadian Railway Trilogy mentioned, but I love listening to it, it tells an old story and the music affects me the same way that Wreck of the Edmund.. does.
Glad to know this site exists!

If you favor the GL songs that tell stories, the top 2 are "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" and "Ode To Big Blue". When I first heard Ode To Big Blue I thought it was OK but it didn't capture me for the 1st time like Wreck of the E.F. did. But now it gives me chills listening to that song. Some songs take a little time go grow on you.

Lately......
My favorites are "Race Among The Ruins" and "If I Could". But that changes evry now and then.

Favorite to perform? Gotta be something fun, like "For Lovin' Me"

To the Thrush Commander: You've read me mind. The Wreck of the E.F. and Ode To Big Blue are the 2 best songs if you like the type of music that tells stories. I couldn't agree with you more. Canadian Railroad Trilogy would come in 3rd.
