John Denver once said " My purpose in performing is to communicate the joy I experience in living" Wouldn't you think The Big Guy influenced him? why or why not?
I'll pop in a few more times and give you some more food for thought.

I think GL did influence John because of the beautiful vioce and excellent song writing. Sadly, thought, John cannot hear these raves about him.

maybe he and Gord were mutually influenced, along with the Croces, James Taylors, Harry Chapins, Jimmy Buffets, Donny Osmonds (oops), etc

per his liner notes, seems like JP Cormier was:

"To say that Gordon's songs inspired my own writing is a colossal understatement. I see him in all the things that I write, and use his technique as the bar I must surpass to end up with a good song. The scary thing is, I'm just one of millions who feel the same way. That's one of the reasons I am putting out this recording. This record represents a common bond between a very unique set of people. From those of us who grew up with his music, to those who are just discovering it now, or folks that know all the words to "The Edmund Fitzgerald" and don't even know who Gordie is; this record is for everyone.

Gordon Lightfoot may be a humble man, but he has produced one of the most complete, diverse, and staggering volumes of work of any composer in history. All of his fans, whether they be fanatical or casual, hold his gift somewhere close to their hearts. Gord, it might be difficult for you to hear, but thankfully, it's something we're all going to have to live with.”

+ a pile of unknowns, me & friends included

Aengus and I spoke about how great it was that Gord had come to the show and how he seemed to be more accepting about just what his place is in people's lives, be they musicians or those of us who just listen. He's come to grips with who he is, what his music means and I really think he's enjoying the tributes, awards, accolades, at this time in his life. And I am so thrilled that we are all able to do this now, instead of "later." Lightfoot showing up was his way of saying thanks, I appreciate you too. He's humble and thankful, we're grateful and thankful. It seems to be working out well!

Which comes up to my next thought.
JP Cormier.
In his linear notes He said "Every time someone tried to record a tribute project to him, he's squashed it,"
"Somehow I snuck through there. I must have a horseshoe up my arse."
How did he get influenced by GL?
enjoy!

Apparently he wrote the hit song, Key Largo -- which I definitely remember, and.... get this... the guy lives 5 minutes from me in Burbank, California!!! Wow!!

in the song THE POET that JP wrote for Gord he says he heard Lightfoot music "stealing through the dusty cracks of his brothers gramophone."

now that the door is wide open i'll draw your attention to our next contestant. His motto is " Take care of the music, and the music will take care of you." Yes, my friends, Brad Johner.
Do you think he was influenced by GL? why or why not?

i know i'm always the one to get things started but i think Johner got influened by GL through his music and songs. music, becuse he performed The Auctioneer when he came to town in June. i know Lightfoot isnt the first one to do it but it's an idea.
