another topic - any lines from gord's songs that bring a smile to your face for any reason?

for me:

"all her sap runs free and sticks to me"
"bring your fishing line"
"his hide was thick as leather"
"polka dot underwear"

any more

How about the last verse from "Walls"

I'm not ashaamed of wearin' out my old grey socks
Chasin' you around the back woods
I'm not afraid to darn nor too proud to find some yarn to sew them up once again,
Cause that's what socks are for.

"You seem to think because you got chicken to go you're in luck" instantly came to mind.

"a tuna fish turned to a mermaid in bed & said there goes another sandbar."

"she cries turpentine"

"she was all dolled up like a blue-eyed pup, lookin' fer somethin' to spill."

"come on Pearl, i'm rough & ready, i got my fishin' pole..." (i mean really!)

'Polka dot underwear' is mine, too. I actually call that song 'The Underwear Song', thanks to that line. I also like Uncle Toad Said, 'when Uncle Toad spoke it was not a pretty sight'.

I'm playing Shadows continuously, and I think Blackberry Wine is so funny. In particular the line, "Pass it on over, it's a sin to be sober too long". I've heard Gord do that one at least twice in concert and I always laugh.

"But if I never get to Heaven, Heaven don't deserve me anyway."

When I played this at the Lightfoot tribute concert, some guy in the audience started giggling. I think it may have been the first time he heard it.

I'm rather embarassed to say that it took a few thousands listens before I realized "Bend in the Water" wasn't about fishing. I struck me one night when I was baking and had the music on in the background, "Hey, wait a minute. Fishing pole, fishing hole. Hey, he's not talking about fishing."

I don't know how funny this line is, but everytime I hear it I think, "A woman could never write this."

Now there you go you're crying again
Now there you go you're crying again
But then someday when your poor heart
Is on the mend
I just might pass this way again
