Just listening to good old Radio 2 over here on the BBC, and the Mayor is having some interesting coverage. Canadian politics is not as boring as we thought.

Well at least in TO it's not boring..it's quite the gong show with the Ford Brothers...they're all over US tv-CNN/Matt Lauer interviewed them..they're shameless..They have no legal charges against them.
The mayor is a 6 year old boy and carries on as mayor as one would if he were 6 and out in the schoolyard. he's a shameless, egocentric, boorish, clueless bully and has a family that makes excuses for him at every turn. To actually think it's ok to excuse your occasional crack use by saying it must have been when you were in drunken stupor is gobsmackingly stunning. LOL!
He thinks because he answers phone calls and e-mails from constituents he's a good mayor.. his staff should be doing that!! His claims of monies saved are overblown to the max.
He's an overindulged brat. His problems in his life and family are well known and he needs to step away from work to get them sorted out. The city is still running but the distractions at city hall are causing interruptions that are not needed.
search GOOGLE and you'll find all the fun...

why don't they just charge him with something? after all the tax payer police dollars put into the monitoring of him and his acquaintances, there better be something more ....so far i know his driver is implicated in stuff but out of $5000 bail...doesnt seems very grande quite yet

considering the hidden video and all the media monitoring on top of that, the crack, doobie in the drawer and rant stuff, etc still seem kinda of boring...where's the fraudulent spending, the child porn, the extramarital affairs, the hired hit man stuff... he's not made the bigtime yet, IMO....i guess his binging, stubbornness and fatness fuel the headlines... he is now a celebrity, loll.... i hope the anti-Ford citizens will learn and get off their butts and vote next election... i hope that lady on CNN last night is not the alternative... or the bald guy who wouldnt answered as to whether he ever smoked pot.... i do kind of like this deputy mayor... deep voice

i dont think we have a corfidian who actual resides in toronto... unless RF is a lurker

personally, i don't look as a mayor as a role model (like the Queen type figurehead) but it's nice bonus if they are... but they shouldnt be a criminal! i think having someone who delivers results is what most would want... i've never been gleeming with pride to listen to Lastman, or Hall, or Miller, etc at any international event ...i really dont think tourism or business will suffer, perhaps the opposite, lol

This person is unfit to hold public office.

Prior to the drug revelation Mr. Ford publicly made racist and personal offensive remarks against those who opposed him. That part seems to have been overlooked at this stage.

The citizens of Toronto who voted him into office were clearly duped.

He is an international embarrassment on the world stage and celebrities like Gord who live in Toronto and there are many, would constantly be on the lookout as to not be seen in public with him.

It seems at this stage we're stuck with having to endure his image in our faces every time we turn on our TV sets to catch up on the news.

Mayoral candidates seem to come in many different packages and with the next election another year away Toronto voters have lots of time to scrutinize those who are in the line up.

Now that I'm back living in the city I love my choice first and foremost will not be for the candidate who will brag about how much money he can save the taxpayer but whether she or he is fit or unfit to hold public office.

The last thing Toronto citizens need is a follow up to spectacle that's being delivered to us at this moment.

Think you're overdoing it mentioning Gord.

totally...i dont know about that stuff, and i went from ignorance (before the media vaulted this guy to celeb status) on this all to semi-aware, so i thought

regardless of where folks stand, i think the "mutiny-like" process stinks as well as the piling on... i guess it's the lefty in me... good luck to the next elected mayor

considering the vast material that the comedians have had to work with, i thought most of it lame... especially Letterman and SNL (the dude in that fat suit apparently got hurt during his skit... terrible accent effort... this is Toronto, not the east coast! lol)

i still think this is pretty lame as far as the big scandals go ...i think that was the gist of some other thread we had going ...i guess i dont know anything about crack and it's lingering effect from personal time use into next day's decisions that effect an entire city... or his racial stuff... the gay/slang spewings somehow wouldn't surprise me...seems to be one of the "old boys"

While both Ford boys are the 1% coming from and having mega bucks and they are both buffoons and bullies to the nth degree, neither has been charged let alone found guilty of anything illegal. Removing his powers as Mayor is illegal. Just becuz he's an arsehole with no impulse control at all in what he says or does not legally allow council to remove his powers he got in a legal election.
Were it only as easy as council voting him out then many other elected officials worldwide in democratic countries would find themselves arse over teakettle on the lawn of city hall. This is a dangerous precedent that has been set and I believe wholly illegal. The carnival going on at City Hall knows no end but sadly Ford and bro were legally elected and only another election will oust them...if in fact that does happen..and it may not. Torontonians were so fed up with previous Mayors spending the city into debt they'd have voted for a gerbil if it meant they got a buck off their tax bill and their garbage picked up on time. The antics of Rob Ford and his brother reflect on them, not the City of Toronto.

Rick Mercer rant - There really is very little left to say about Rob Ford. The truth is that man is so messed up, if he didn't have family and money, he would probably be on the streets barking at parking meters. He's this close to biting the heads off live chickens on the Latin America freak show circuit. But no, of course, instead he is the mayor of Canada's largest city and like another man, whose name escapes me at the moment but recorded a song called “Gangnam Style,” he is temporarily an international sensation.

So, is he bad for Toronto’s reputation on the world stage? Not really, if anything he makes us more interesting. And let’s face it, Toronto could use the help. So why is he so popular? Well number one, he's obviously entertaining. He's gone from being a car crash, to a ten car pile-up, to a scene in a disaster movie where space junk flies out of the sky, crashes into an overpass, it tumbles over, crushes a bus load of singing nuns. Huge laughs.

The other reason he’s so popular, number two, his agenda. What about all those people in Ford Nation who say they will vote for him tomorrow? What they are saying loud and clear, and what everyone on the left should pay attention to, is this: They are saying, we would rather have a guy on crack, than a mayor who will raise our taxes. They are saying, we don't care if he drives his escalade drunk through the city we care that he wants to privatize garbage collection. They are saying, we will vote for a gerbil if we get a dollar back.

Rob Ford's popularity has nothing to do with the man himself – he is a circus act – but his politics are very real. And they should not be written off just because he's about to be.

yeah, bad precedent, for sure...the councillors are non-arms length ousters... trying to protect their jobs and perhaps some running for next election and only too happy to pile on...and some, just interested in damage control, fair

yes, entertaining, i only just got to see them online on suntv and now canceled!

there was some guy on there talking about other politicians and their legacies, including JFK....i was ignorant to that if true... i guess people are very forgiving

i guess its not just the low tax but some other stuff mixed in there too...some don't like the "elite" types and perhaps hate that more than they even disliked Ford

i'm confused: in the middle...as i listen to my Glenn Gould
CD in my Argo jersey

LOL - love the flute solo.... he should make a Gord concert cameo appearance... maybe take Circle of Steel or Ghost of Cape Horn to another level hey, the cameras and reporters apparently even follow RF to his gym... TMZ syndrome is alive and well throughout north america... i feel badly for many of the other news stories

i was reading about how to handle scandals, and not what "to do"s

he had said he was "in a drunkin' stupor" .... did his publicist chose those words? lol

"Far better would it have been for the Mayor to say something like, “Yes, I have tried crack cocaine. It was on a night when I had too much to drink, and that led to my making a very poor choice that I deeply regret. I apologize to anyone who is let down by this, and I have entered into an alcohol addiction program to ensure that nothing like this ever happens again.”

With that choice of words he would not only owned up to the mistake, but he would also have apologized, and detailed an action plan for ensuring that it would not be repeated. And that is what people want to hear. "

recall Letterman confessing he had taken advantage of employed subordinate(s?) and slept with them after someone was trying to extort money from him? he faced it head on... seems like a more terrible act than Ford's (although much remains unknown.... maybe he actually was sleeping with Sarah Thompson ) but it was all brushed away by the public within weeks... Tiger Woods was kid/charities role model and again, he denied and lied (just like Ford) and again, it's all in the past now...Holy, maybe Ford will be re-elected! nothing surprises me anymore...

i think Gord and Anchorman dude have the same blazer tailor..Gord Burgundy

when somebody screws up and owns up in a sincere manner and attempts to make amends people are more likely to off up empathy and second chances. arrogance and bombastic proclamations and lame-ass excuses just alienate those you wish to get onside. the ford brothers are pathological in their bully ways when held to account. they are the same people they were when they were pre-teens i'm sure and it's carried thru their lives.

ya, i guess he was at the forefront of this "entitlement" generation

the dumbest line is not the failed "get plenty at home" humour (that's meant for his football watching chums to giggle over in their mancaves) or drunken stupor but the "you didn't task me the right questions" line... did Doug feed him that?

that is a gut buster... so is how he segues from "near tears" apology right into suddenly going over his stats and election campaigning, all in one breath...and he has asthma!!! quite an talent

he wasn't in the news much this morning... i now feel there is a void in my life

(suggestion: we need a crack smokin' smiley to chose from! )

Sadly, you're not alone.

In September, we had a guy reciting "Green Eggs and Ham" on the Senate Floor, before succeeding in shutting down the Federal Government. And just this week, a congressman from Florida was arrested and charged with cocaine possession.

I suspect that we'll be hearing about how Radel has suddenly "found God" and is completely at peace with himself, in the near future.
