I don't post here often but enjoy all your posts. I've picked up much info and can relate to many of the stories of some of the people of this message board. Let me tell you a little story based on Gord's music and how it has affected my life over the past couple of years..

I have listened to Gord's music all my life as influenced early by my dad's 8-tracks listening to his music on trips to upstate New York and other areas. As I grew older I really didn't listen to Gord that much at all really but something happened about 3 years ago. I picked up some old tapes, including Sundown and started listening more often. then more and more. It started really growing on me big time. At about the same time this was going on, I started going out with a new girl I met. We grew to listen to alot of Gord's music as we got to know each other and it wasn't unusual for me to listen to literally hours of his music every day as I do now even and as many of you fans out there do as well. We went to several concerts together. It was a fantastic 3 years but recently we broke up just a few months ago. Boy, do those lyrics sound different now!! As you know, most of Gord's music is about love and relationships and I have lived through it first hand from the beginning and end. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has felt this. The meaning in his songs are so different now that we are apart. Albums like "Endless Wire", "Don Quixote" just to name a few have become different albums in my mindset. To make a long story short, it's amazing how music can mean something one day and something entirely different the next. After we broke up, I have been "reborn" listening to Gord's music and it has never sounded better after hours a day for several years.

I couldn't have said it better. I know exactly what you mean. I too grew up listening to Gord. I'm sure anyone who was a child of the seventies could sing a handful of his songs forward and backwards. He wasn't my music of choice as a teenager either, but now, here I am, in my thirties, I've been married, divorced, found a new love, relocated, bought my second house, etc. and suddenly, I can't get enough of Gord. I think, "Hey, this guy is singing about my life." But the truth is, anyone who has lived a little and has tasted a little of life's experiences, can relate to at least one of Gord's songs. Yes, you are right. These songs have taken on a whole new meaning.

Your so right Guys !!

You know this is what makes Gords music so special, like a really good novel, the words of the songs create a picture in your mind, ( we all have different pictures ), and as we grow from our teens to our 50's ( gosh that was quick !! ), our own pictures are changed by our experiences, but the spirit remains. ( I hope Ed reads this ... lol )

Gordon Lightfoot is a genius !!!, his music has the ability to transport us through time and space, to anywhere we want to be, and anywhere our own experience takes us, it even has the ability to return us to our youth ( gee! I must be getting old..lol )

The good thing " SC " is that we learn from these experiences, we never loose, we just become better people, as we move forward to the next adventure, and "Lightheads" have lots of them...

Keep Smiling Everyone... Ron
