Default song for a winter night

Br-r-r!
Love that song, ah, but, I am getting used to the comfort of warm as I get older.
For those of us who love it:
What is your most memorable part of this song?
Mine is the sleigh bells, it just combines so beautifully with the "atmosphere" (ah, call it ambience if you will) of this song.
In other words what part of this song gets you and makes you want to slow down and listen?

"I would be happy just to hold the hands I love
On this winter night with you".

Yes, that is a powerful statement. What a beautiful verse. How romantic can a guy get?
I gotta hand it to Gord, he knows how to clearly speak the volumes of wisdom contained in his heart.

In general, I think that this particular song, from the first word to the last, is one of the best examples of Gord's talent for imagery. You can see in your mind's eye the lonely cabin, its solitary inhabitant, the oil lamp, the "snow softly falling" etc.

Yes Gwen. It's a great song, but the sleigh bells make it one-of-a-kind and unforgettable.

I love the entire song but it always makes me feel a kind of sweet sadness when he sings "if I could know it in my heart...that you are lonely too"....

I think it's pretty safe to say that all of us hope that someone we miss and are longing for could be somewhere out there 'missing' us too.
It's such a great song...one of my favorites.

My favorite Gord song. I also love the entire song, from the first note to the last fading sleighbell at the end. From the first word to the last.

I just listened to SFAWN this morning in the car. It's in my top five, if not favorite, Gord song. The sleigh bells, the lyrics, the imagery...everything...I love it.

He hears her voice softly calling..yet she's not there..
and leading up to "if I could know within my heart, that you were lonely too" is the sad yearning for him to be able to read what is not written: "I read again between the lines upon the page"...
breaks my heart every time...alone with the unknown..
and those bells..

My sentiments as well Paul. When you hear those beautiful lyrics it doesn't take long before an image appears in one's mind. I particularly like the entry when the lead guitar comes in and then the Gold Gord voice. I prefer to listen more to the earlier United Artists recording rather that the later one. BTW I like your material also. "Canadian High" is a cool number. Ron J.

With more than a thousand views a month at Youtube, Song For A Winter's Night is eternally popular. This is posted at my channel at Youtube thomasj157, committed to produce and upload a vistory. (video story), for each and every song he has recorded.

Thanks Ron! That tune would've perhaps been a bit longer if I could've thought of a decent rhyme for "Horton's" (-:

CHar, oh yeah, that is the truth about that loneliness...
Additionally, his "if I could only have you here
to breathe a sigh or two"
at one time this seems anticipatory and "gaga, I'm so head over"...
but, blend in Gahoendoe's video (vistory/vidstory) and it combines quite properly with Gord's lyric's.
Man, nice

For me, it's the very first opening notes. It grabs my attention & doesn't let go until the very end. By then, I feel like I've been out on a fun sleigh ride, and then got home to get warmed by the fire. So very nice.

Gahoendoe,
thanks for that video...I really love it.
I have a thing about hands...I always notice that about a person. I love all the different images of the elderly, young and inbetween handholding.
Really, very lovely images.
