Default Trent Severn Does Lightfoot

That wonderful trio of young ladies from Ontario known as 'Trent Severn' are working on their second album. Included will be Gord's song 'Love & Maple Syrup. You can give it a listen on their website. http://trentsevernband.ca/
I know you'll enjoy it as much as I did!

PORT HOPE - Meet Trent Severn — not the southern Ontario waterway system but the Canadian band, whose songs are inspired by Ontario folklore and whose lyrics pay tribute to Canadian legends.

The Stratford trio will join local folk-music hero Aengus Finnan in a May 20 concert called Home Grown, a benefit performance in support of the gifted vocalists of Cobourg's St. Mary Secondary School whose talents are taking them to competitive venues near and far (and necessitating increased fundraising efforts).

Trent Severn consists of indie songster Emm Gryner, the multi-talented Dayna Manning, and songbird and violin whiz Laura C. Bates. United by the same stomping grounds and musical crossroads, they nonetheless have individual resumes that are something to talk about.

Singer-songwriter Gryner has several albums to her credit. A three-time Juno nominee, she has won the Canadian Music Publisher’s Songwriting scholarship, the Radiostar Songwriting Contest and plaudits from U2's Bono — in Q Magazine's 20th-anniversary issue, he named her song Almighty Love as one of six songs from the past 20 years that he wishes he'd written. She also worked as a member of David Bowie's touring band for his album …hours.

Possessed of unique finger-picking skills, an unmistakeable voice and superb songwriting skills, Manning has released three solo records (one of which was Juno-nominated). These records feature appearances by such artists as Sean Ono Lennon, Red Hot Chili Pepper Chad Smith and CSNY sideman Bob Galub. Manning has toured the country with 54-40, Joe Cocker and Burton Cummings, and opened for Radiohead.

Bates, who loves fiddling everywhere from concert halls to around the campfire, is the first violinist to receive a bachelor's degree in jazz and contemporary music from Humber College. Her career highlights include performances at Massey Hall, the Glenn Gould Studio and the West End Cultural Centre, with appearances on Canada’s Got Talent (Citytv), CBC Radio (live), four national tours and numerous Canadian folk festivals including Mariposa, Hillside, Shelter Valley, Northern Lights, and Blueskies. Her other projects, The Boxcar Boys (Dixieland, western swing, Klezmer) and Del Bel (post-rock indie orchestra), have received critical acclaim in The Toronto Star and NOW magazine. She takes joy in fiddling everywhere from concert halls to camp fires.

Finnan is better known closer to home, as he grew up in the Northumberland area. He has released two solo albums plus a live album, and is the founding artistic director for the Shelter Valley Folk Festival,

Finnan was invited to contribute the only original composition on Beautiful, the Canadian tribute album to Gordon Lightfoot. He sang at the first reunion concert of Ian and Sylvia Tyson (hosted by the Mariposa Folk Festival) and was interviewed for CBC’s 30-year commemoration of the death of Stan Rogers for The National’s feature Only in Canada.
His love song Lately was awarded Folk Music Ontario’s Songs from the Heart Award, while his haunting song O’Shaughnessy’s Lament (written in the graveyard of a Northern Ontario silver-mining town) has been recorded by renowned Irish-American tenor Seamus Kennedy. His song My Heart Has Wings aired during the final season of CTV’s Flashpoint.
As he prepares for a new studio album in 2014, Finnan returns to touring with the release of his long-anticipated live recording Once Upon a Time.

Sharing the stage at Port Hope's Capitol Theatre with Trent Severn, Finnan will share the stage with other home-grown talent — the St. Mary Singers themselves, led by Tanya Earle, as the prepare for several upcoming competitions (including a 2015 international festival in Los Angeles).

The May 20 show starts at 7:30 p.m., and tickets are $22, available at the Capitol Theatre box office (905-885-1071).
