Well I just watched the video of the auction, and my heart broke all over again. I have such strong memories and emotions, even though the first time I ever went there was in 1998. Not even ten years ago, and yet I thought it would be there forever.
I wonder who got some of the Gord memorabilia? Wish it was me.

That street where "Sam's" is looks exactly like Washington Avenue here in Phoenix!
I'm envious x 10 of anyone who landed any Lightfoot merchandise.
I know how all you guys feel about that store closing. Same thing is happening all over America too. Pretty soon Tower will be no more,Sam Goody's is suffering.
All the places that I bought new music at in the 80s and 90s are gone. The franchises still exist (for now) but none of them are here in the area where I live.

ok-weird al yankovic is at Massey tonight..NOT going to be attending that one!
lol
walked up to SAMS today..sad..lots of memories for this old kid..
bought some old videos (music selection awas the pits) just to get a bill with date and name/address and a sams bag..lots of empty racks, the autographed walls are gone, very sad day.
A small rain cloud over Yonge nd Gould as I was snapping pics of the signs..the rain lasted about 2 minutes as we ran into sams for the last time..
took pics-will post some asap.
it is gorgeous in toronto-no humidity, cool breeze, full moon..it's wonderful.
lisa wanted to swing into EMP to say hi to gord.lol
we'll see him next weekend..Guess who will be signing a LIGHTFOOT stamp??
lol
the stamps are so freaking gorgeous. the whole packaging/design concept etc. is wonderful.
I would have liked to have been able to purchase JUST Lightfoot stamps but that is the only fault I can find with the whole thing.
i was at SAMS for over an hour: this is a clip on the news:

Re: Sam the Record Man auction Wednesday
good one, Linda
i was going to go with Cold Hands from Canada (i blame it on bad blood circulation)
then I came up with jj...they are my initals, pretty creative, eh!
if there are any Steeles Tavern (Sam's location) momentos I would've made a bid

Re: Sam the Record Man auction Wednesday
ya know i attended Ryerson for a few years, mid 80s... during spares my friends hit the pubs whereas I hit Sams (100 yards from Rye High) ...I must have racked up over 100 hours sifting thru and reading the backs of LPs, VHS concert tapes, etc...I think I deserved a credit of some sort
my Kindergarten report card commented, "makes good use of 'spare' time" ...20+ years later it was accurate
RIP Sam & Sam's
