OK but I should have said that, as I have several times tried to point out, if anybody tries to display any picture whose width is greater than about 850 pixels it is too wide for the forum's format so it widens the blue area to suit itself which then causes text to start appearing in long lines (including the text of messages higher up}entailing somewhat undesirable
scrolling to see all of both text and picture.
This is in fact a factor that I shall be stressing in my tutorial. But nevertheless it is a good point to include in that tutorial instructions on resizing the picture and also making thumbnails plus the fairly complicated UBB code to be used to show a thumb that when clicked opens the full picture

In it the writer James May describes cultual and ethnic car driving stereotypes. (he drives an old Bentley T2)

As a suggestion, small (but not necessarily thumbnail) images are okay even on dialup if the width and height are modest (say 250 x 250 max), the resolution is low (72 dpi is fine), and there aren't too many of them. Wider pictures are annoying even on high speed for those of us who like to use modest sized windows and have many windows displayed. So if you run at 800x600, or at 1024x768 but don't like to have all your windows maximized, the wide photographs become a pain in the neck to view (see below).

On dialup, many modest sized pictures can add up, so we should all think about that as we add to a thread. One possibility (for those who are technically capable) is to have a small or modest sized picture inline, and also include a link to a larger one. Of course, this is more work for the person posting, but it's something we can do to keep some pictures in the threads, but also try to keep the page load time (and width) to something reasonable.

This thread, for example, is at least 100 pixels wider than 800 as a result of the widest image (728px) to which must be added all the space at the left and the right PLUS the margins and scroll area of the window.

Just my 2 cents.
