Gord has presented Blue Rodeo with their award and Greg Keelor said Gordon Lightfoot is the inventor of Canadian songwriting..

Jim Cuddy thanked him for coming out of hibernation..Gord said he hasn't been hibernating!
Jim said 'well not from songwriting but from attending these sorts of events.'
He also said he thought about what direction the band should go in back in the late 80's and that Lightfoot's influence not only as a songwriter but how he conducts himself was a large factor.

When Gord was introduced the whole place stood and applauded; he stepped back, smiled and bowed. 2 piece suit, white shirt, polka dot tie (no frogs) looking good..

'This officially makes me better than you', Blue Rodeo singer tells kids

.Jim Cuddy says Blue Rodeo's induction into Canada's Walk Of Fame during today's gala at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts means a lot to him as a born-and-bred Torontonian.

Especially since he can lord the honour over his three children, aged 17 to 22.

"I already told my children, 'This officially makes me better than you,' " joked Cuddy, 53, down the line from his manager's office as the veteran alt-country-pop band finish up their new double album, The Things We Left Behind, due Nov. 3. "I think they felt that I was already very obnoxious and this was just going to put me over.

"I think it's one of those things that kind of sneaks up on you," he added more seriously. "You think, 'Oh, that's great.' And then I'm a Torontonian and the idea of having a plaque somewhere embedded in the sidewalk is pretty significant to me and so I think every so often there's a blush of, 'Gosh, this is a big deal.' "

Cuddy is particularly moved that Canadian songwriting legend Gordon Lightfoot will be inducting the group at the ceremony (to be broadcast on Global/Slice tomorrow night at 9).

"Gordon we've known for quite a few years and he's just an absolute God, he's just an amazing guy," said Cuddy. "And they phoned Gordon and Gordon said, 'Oh, I can't do that.' He doesn't like that limelight. And then he phoned back and said, 'Alright for those guys, I'll do it. But that's it. I'm not going to stay for the event or anything.' So that was very sweet. That's really, really nice of him and I think that's also sort of the way the Canadian music industry is. People are very good to each other."

Cuddy says Blue Rodeo plans on performing a song from their catalogue during the ceremony and getting as many of their fellow inductees up on stage with them to sing including Tom Cochrane. Anne Murray is actually hosting the event.

In the meantime, the band, who have been writing and recording since January, will be hitting the road in support of The Things We Left Behind starting in January and taking a break for the Olympics in Vancouver in February.

The biggest surprise is that the band is releasing the double disc on vinyl as well as CD and downloadable formats.

"We're excited about doing all the mastering for vinyl, we both have good turntables and I guess that was just one of the guiding principles for the record," said Cuddy of he and his Blue Rodeo songwriting partner, Greg Keelor, for the last 22 years.

"The way we wanted it to sound. The way we wanted the songs arranged. It's a little bit like the pop artist. You put a frame around something and it becomes art. Well if you put a collection of songs, four (sides) together, they somehow start to relate to each other. And if they don't you bust them up and get another four.

"Of course, when you work on something for months and months you get very microscopic about the details and that's sort of where we're at now."

i thought it was funny when cuddy told of how his dad would nervously count the cars at their concerts each year to make sure their popularity wasn't fading, cos jim had nothing to fall back on

nice intro (and acceptance) speech for kim catrell and neat bio montage, i knew not much of her ...glad she's back in theatre

(our) brain williams is all class as usual, lovely to see our smiling wheelchair hero...she should have joined blue rodeo for the finale

didnt know raymond burr had a boyfriend, not that there's anything wrong with that...hmm, cuthbert looked pretty plain, those hockey players wore her out

i guess the top marks goes to tom cochrane for his acceptance speech...when he told the anecdote of driving north of lake superior in the rain on way to/from a gig and encountered an aggravating traffic tie up leading him to mope to himself and think what a terrible grind this musicians life was...then he saw what the cause of the traffic backlog was

...it was a guy with one leg running along the road, he wasn't sure if his face was wet from the rain, the sweat or the tears or all of the above...he had been running every day since he dipped his foot in the atlantic, many many days earlier

it turned out to be terry fox's last day of running of the marathon of hope...one must visit the monument near thunder bay someday, it's modest but powerful...when i was there (solo and not planned) it was stormy and -30C, i wish i had a camera back then..but the image lives on, as that scene does for cochrane...the point was, it was the very last time tom felt any degree of pity for himself

anyhow, cochrane is a fine writer, performer and has done great humanitarian work, mega-congrats...he also has the GL humble gene

gord looked like he had a new suit...anne murray's presence (and face) was uplifting...howie mandel was howie mandel, i liked his mom...cheers all

would share if I had it, TG, sorry...if this had been on CBC we'd likely see repeat airings but I don't expect to see any on Global and haven't seen anything pop up in cyberspace...i did find this montage though recapping the past decade, thought some may enjoy some names and faces

I did see this Sunday night, Lightfoot looking really cool as usual... Man he has long hair now!

In the audience when they showed him laughing at an Anne Murray quote, I thought I saw Meredith and her friend sitting next to him !

Like Char said he was greeted w/ a standing Ovation.

Very good show... I also liked Tom Cochran speech mentionong "Terry Fox" at the end.

that explains it, i suppose...the first time i saw him perform for kids i wondered what was up (his nose)...just watching him storytell really exhausted me! am glad he's on top of it

there are healthier ways to climb out of depression, maybe we should send him the corfid url
