I have had a number of people tell me upon looking at my web page that they were horried that was Gordon Lightfoot on my website. Mainly because they hadn't followed him for as long as I have and were shocked by his gaunt appearance.

Heck, none of us looks like we did 20 years ago (a mixed blessing for some <g> ). Time stands still for nobody.

Gord,

I dunno man, he looks great to me. Of course people who have only seem someone on 30 year old album covers might notice a big difference but then again they must not really have wanted to see him in the meantime, if you know what I'm sayin'. Ask them to show you THEIR high school pictures,LOL.

Gord,
Could you post your website address I don't know if I have seen your site. I stop in a read once in a while but haven't registered. I was glad to see the posting on Gord's condition and had wondered what was going on since he had been in ICU for so long. I went to Orillia from Colorado to see him at the Opera House, he was great the one night he played. Please post your address.

I know what Oma means. When I got tickets for Massey this November I thought about the concert I'd seen when I was in college. It was May 1974, my mother's birthday, and I had one of those "it doesn't pay to do the mental math" moments when I realized that she was younger then than I am now (ouch!).

Some folks have the same face at 80 that they had at 8 (plus a few wrinkles) - others look nothing like they did, a source of considerable conversation at class reunions.

Personally I think he looks thin in the face but otherwise pretty good. I'm perfectly willing to liposuction off some of my excess <g>.

When I first saw Gord in concert in 1994, I was surprised at how "small" he seemed up there on stage. I chalked it up to my viewing Gord as "larger than life", and suddenly "oh wow" he's a real person. I never thought he looked sickly or gaunt or anything. I agree he has changed, but who hasn't? Also the times I met Gord after concerts, he seemed younger and spry talking and smiling with his leather jacket on. By the way, Gord is two years older than my mom.

formerlylavender,
I agree that jacket makes him look 10 years younger off stage, funny! But I still think he looks great.
Oma,
Yes, yes, yes I remember, good grief. And the hair?

"I just tell people that once he quit drinking he lost a lot of weight and actually looks more like the early Lightfoot."

Yes. My thoughts exactly. If you look at Painter Passing Through he looks a lot like the guy that the one on Lightfoot! grew into.

I frequently was amazed as various albums came out at appearance changes - particularly at Don Quixote where the beard first appeared!
