I saw in the Minneapolis newspaper that Pierre Burton, Canadian historian died the other day in Toronto at age 84. The connection to Gordon is that Berton was the author of probably the most well-known book on the building of the Canadian Pacific Railway.
As I was growing up in northern Minnesota in the 1970's, I remember wathcing Berton on a TV show called "Front Page- Challenge." It was kind of a game show in which panelists guessed a news story? Does anyone remember that one?
Anyway, I read somewhere, (maybe Wayne's website?) that Pierre Burton once met Gordon Lightfoot in an elevator and told him that his 7 minute song "Canadian Railroad Trilogy" said more than his full length book on the topic. What high praise.
Just great to read about Gord's comeback concerts in Hamilton. Many thanks to all those who posted. I felt like I was really there.
