Happy Belated Birthday Bill!!!!
GL songs I've heard on the radio...Sundown, If You Could Read My Mind and The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. There may be more, but those are the only songs that really stick out in my mind from the radio.

Thanks everyone for the birthday greetings, I really wasn't trying to plug myself but I was trying to say how your radio experience varies depending on how long you've been listening. For a good period of time Gordon rode the top of the airwaves which is why even now he's got a bunch of people discussing him even though he's not even on the road.

After Sept.11, 2001, there were a lot of songs about war being played on the radio. Was there any Gordo songs about the war played them? Protocol, Summer Side Of Life, etc?

Gordon's songs are really don't have very much to do with things like that. I really don't think there's song that would be appropriate by him. Later.

I'm shocked that 'Alberta Bound' was never played. We all have our songs we think should have bin played more often or played at all, but this not only is it a great song, its a good travelling song as well, so it would only seem natural that it would be played on the radio. But, I guess they don't go by whether its a good radio song or not, I guess they go by whether it was a hit or not.

Exactly DMD3! These days, that's all that really seems to matter. So much of today's music is so generic,it's boring. Major labels process this music like Tyson processes chicken! If it isn't a rapper it's an R & B diva or it's an American Idol or some flash in the pan act that makes it with 1 or 2 hits and disappears. There are some that stand out like Destiny's Child and or Beyonce,Nelly and a few others. I can't bring myself to put Eminem into that category because he simply does not appeal to me. Despite the fact that I bought,"Lose Yourself" on an import CD single. That was only because it went to #1 for 12 weeks and I collect #1's. Back to the point at hand though, the music I grew up with, yes, sometimes there were acts that went strictly for hit-making and didn't concentrate much on songwriting or working on sounding unique in any sense. The difference is they were never wholly accepted by the masses and sent packing. I think that's why people in my age group and older go on so much about our music. Over 90% of the acts we listened to played their own instruments and worked hard at it,playing anyplace that would take them just to get heard. That goes for the vocalists as well. Today, most acts signed have little to no exp. Ashanti was big last year but her vocals are not very engaging and almost dull. All of us who post here want real singers, real musicians and songwriters. That's why we love Gordon Lightfoot's words & music. He's real in every sense. ..and yes,Alberta Bound and nearly his whole catalouge, are songs we would love to hear on the radio! In my opinion,Gord should have as many hits as The Beatles (52) or Elton John (59). 6 hits? No wonder I don't listen to the radio much anymore. Been me,later!

I brought this up because I've heard Gord on the radio three times in the past week and a half. I heard If You Could... twice and the Wreck (only my second time hearing on the radio) last Saturday. Of course it was on the same station (104.5 FM), but I was thrilled!

formerlylavender,
That's a SIGN. Things are looking up. I'm hoping he appears in our area again (2005?) so we all can meet up at another concert. I'll always be indebted to your brother for pushing me up to Gordon for an autograph and picture that night. Little did I know that would be the last chance I'd have. "You gotta be aggressive or you'll never get up there". Great advice.
