Since we're on the subject, I've been meaning to ask:

Why is he so serious on all his album covers?? Anyone have any ideas?

Charlene's answer was good.

But Peter Gzowski once told him, "after your Bells Palsy which occured in the early 70's,you couldnt smile very well." Which Gordon replied, "I still can't." Maybe that is one reason. On Shadows you see the right side of his face better lighted.

I myself like the serious look better on an Album jacket, than say a guy with a big open smile. Too happy, also he can swallow a fly or something... :D

I love the photo of Gord smiling on the back of the jacket of the "East of Midnight" Album.

Lopsided or not, I usually prefer a smile over a serious look. Until I saw Gord in concert, I didn't know if he ever did smile! I remember feeling so relieved or "at ease" once I saw him smiling and laughing. It was awesome.

It's kind of like with my serious and temperamental teenage son, when he is smiling and laughing, it makes me happy too!

Life's too short, we should all smile more.

I can finally say this giventhe talk of Gord not smiling on his album covers.

If Gordon had ever posed w/some big chessy grin on his face, and I kid you not,he would have looked like Will Farrell on SNL in a beard! LOL! :D

His serious look is not just because of the BEls Palsy,I think it sows he is a serious artist.

Besides, big grins on LP covers are for Andy Williams & Pat Boone !

I do agree with Char and Borderstone that it shows he's serious about his music, and that he's not a flashy Hollywood type of performer that's all glitter and no substance, like some performers whom I will not mention but who recently shaved their heads bald. It also says something about his agent and PR people. And I must admit, those covers are interesting and hard to imagine what he was thinking of at the time the photo was taken.

But...I wouldn't need a big cheesy grin on an album cover, just a teeny tiny grin perhaps. Oh well, maybe next time...

Just look at the grin on the back of the "East of Midnight" album (at least the vinyl anyway). That is "a keeper"!!! Just priceless!!!!

The cover of "Salute" makes me believe he's thinking,"I wanna go to bed..are we through here?" :D
