Thanks for posting the picture, Gord. I remember seeing many "iron boats" similar to the Edmund Fitzgerald in the harbor at Duluth in the early 70's! Also, if you stand on the shores of Lake Superior, you can sometimes see the ships far out on the horizon...really neat!

Gosh,no wonder it sank. It may have been made of steel but it looks like a single Kit Kat bar that you can easily break in two. I'm sure the ship was as sturdy as they could make it,unlike the Titanic. I wonder why no one ever made this into a movie? Of course,I think it's too late for that given the success of the film Titanic. Great picture!

Border: That's actually a pretty good analogy that you've come up with. In many respects the big iron ore freighters ARE Kit Kat bars that you can snap in two..."when the skies of November turn gloomy." That's why they make for shore-usually!

Actually there is a movie being made of the sinking. I read a good article on one of the many "edmund fitzgerald" web sites. I think they may have had some production problems but...

The Edmund Fitzgerald movie has been in the works for litteraly years.....I'll be suprised if it even makes it on film. The producer was having problems getting the financing to make the movie.

In reference not only to the picture but the song and actual event itself...Do you remember ever hearingabout the actual event on the news at all? I know I don't because I was too young then. When the song came out I was 8 but never heard it until the early '80s. Anyone out there read about or see on the news back in '75 about this? If you did,tell us all about it and of course,what you thought of the song when it debuted in '76. It still gives me chills,even after having heard it for over 20 years. Well,gotta go. Well Brink,sometimes having a good memory like I do,I tend to forget that others may not be the same way. I tell you though,sometimes it gets very annoying being able to remember so many things and so many years back in my life. I was 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 in 1971 and that's as far back as I can recall things. Like the way I recall hearing Sundown in '74 on a top 40 station out of Erie,PA. Or even seeing "Laugh*In" on network TV! Must have been the last season. I think you recalled pretty well yourself. Well,it's been me and I'll catch ya on the flipside of Sundown!

I agree that this would make a great movie. But it all depends on what kind of a person does it. If they ever make a movie out of this I think it will either be an awesome movie or it will be the worst and most boring film you've ever seen. There has to be more of a story behind it. You wouldn't want to come out with a film like The Perfect Storm.

Watchman? Watchman? Help! Hey PTTS, have you ever been to Fathom Five? I would love to get picture from out there again. I gues I will just have to make the trip again.
Hey, you know it's funny that Gord never wrote anything about that area and it's just in his own backyard too. The wrecks there did not entice him because of how long ago they sank. Too bad, I have read so many books about the ships in that narrow area and that area in general. Well, another day, huh?
