Re: You Were There (Lightfoot '08)
Well, due to a clerical error, the fact that today is President's Day in the USA was overlooked. Therefore, no proceedings can take place.
It has been decided to expunge the "imaginary friend" notation.
A job opening for a new secretary will be posted soon.

Re: You Were There (Lightfoot '08)
Hey . . . who said I was imaginary? I'm very real- just haven't checked in for a while. Perhaps you know me as MAH? Anyway, I did go to Gord's concert in Atlanta. Wish I could say it was the best I'd ever seen him perform but unfortunately it was not.
It was playing out to be a great evening ... the weather was perfect, it was a spanking new venue, a sellout crowd, and there was a buzz in the air. So, at 8pm sharp, the band strolls onto stage followed by Gord. The set list w/ comments is as follows . . .
Cotton Jenny (as per usual he stops before reaching the "sickly South" verse)
Carefree Highway
Sea of Tranquility
Gord addresses the audience at this point. Says how great it is to be back after a couple of years. Then he recalls another time in ATL ... "oh, the rain in Chastain", he chortles. And if you were there at that concert you'll remember it rained like cats and dogs until just before showtime, then the humidity was so thick you could cut it with a knife!
14 Karat Gold
Never Too Close
In My Fashion
Another chat w/ the crowd- he informs us that this performance was the 11th in 14 days. He comments on how people assume he's exhausted after so many shows in a row but he denies it, saying he becomes more energized. Well that may be, but his voice was taking a toll for sure. It was cracking and very raspy from the get-go.
A Painter Passing Through
Rainy Day People
Shadows
Beautiful
He mentions knowing Jiggs McDonald (commentator for Atl Flames way back when) and how they went to high school together separately. Laughs at his joke. Somewhere around this time, he switches guitars and makes a another joke about how he better get to playing before he quits- er for the first half that is. I think that was a backhanded remark about his fluctuating voice. Some loud lady down front yells something which got the crowd laughing and him just shaking his head.
The Watchman's Gone
Ribbon of Darkness (abbreviated version)
Sundown
The Wreck
Intermission
Triangle
Hangdog Hotel Room
My Little Love
A loud lady shouts she loves him to which he replies, "that's nice to hear since I never hear it at home". Just kidding he says, but one wonders???)
Clouds of Loneliness
He mentions this is a song he was inspired to write while flying over Nebraska late one night and seeing a rare light filtering through the clouds. He then very loudly said it reminded him also of his estranged wife. Hmmm.
Waiting For You (his voice actually was strong during this song)
Make Way For The Lady
If You Could Read My Mind
Baby Step Back
Gord said he and band enjoy playing this song but it was hard to tell this particular night- they all seem to be only going thru the motions.
Song For A Winter's Night
Early Mornin' Rain
Talks about almost meeting Elvis- but Elvis had left the building, and how he thought Elvis did a nice version of his song
If Children Had Wings
Blackberry Wine
Encore - Old Dan's Records
All in all, it was a pleasant evening. I just shut my eyes, sang along quietly to myself. And despite the fact that Gord's voice isn't what it used to be, he can still bring me to my feet!

Re: You Were There (Lightfoot '08)
Mary Ann,
Thanks for the wonderful review, one of the best I've seen.
I will never question Char's veracity again, no matter what monicker she decides to give you. I would suggest that in the future she refer to you as "that Georgia chick", and then I'll know who she is referring to.
Thanks again.

Re: You Were There (Lightfoot '08)
This thread is very cool, keep up the good work. But it highlights how few of the people who find his concerts ever find corfid.com ! I guess those of us who are still "young at heart" know how to navigate the internet, LOL. And of course many of our members are actually young, of course. Myself not included.

Re: You Were There (Lightfoot '08)
I went to Gainesville, Orlando, Tampa and will be in Ft. Pierce tomorrow night. I don't think the acoustics in Gainesville were the best and the Bob Carr theater in Orlando wasn't sold out, lots of empty seats in the rear and in the balcony, which sort of throws off the energy of the evening, but last night in Tampa, all the forces were aligned. Great theater, very enthusiastic, vociferous crowd, superior sound (it was obvious from the first note that Gordon sang), and the exchange of energy between Gordon, the band and the audience was apparent. Everyone was in great form, the song selection was excellent with all the regulars plus a few special numbers. The theater was essentially sold out, it was small, and it created that type of intimate evening that reminded me of the feel at Massey Hall, like a big living room and Gordon is there creating a special mood like only he can. Another thing that was obvious in Tampa was the syngery of Gordon and the band; all the performances were excellent and having the proper sound in the theater really enhanced it all. Three times this week Gordon referred to his new hobby . . . following the United States presdiential campaigns. He finds it fascinating and exciting, revealed nothing of his personal preferences, but gave the impression that he approves of the process and this year's issues and opportunities. On another note, how come the 2008 tour dates are not added to the 2006 and 2007 dates on the home page? I almost missed the new additions in Massachusetts and New York in September. Peace.

Re: You Were There (Lightfoot '08)
My family went to the Tampa show (they live in sarasota) and also noted how beautiful the theatre was and the fabulous acoustics. They also told me how happy Gordon seemed and that he was really enjoying himself. They mentioned that the crowd in Sarasota would have been a lot tamer and having been there a couple of years ago I'd have to agree.
Sure wish I'd "Tagged Along" ..for so many reasons!

Re: You Were There (Lightfoot '08)
Ma'am,
I'm not questioning whether or not "Lori" or "Donnie" attended a show, but rather if they're Corfidians. Melissa has posted here before, so that's not a problem.

Lori has posted here. I don't think Donnie has but she lurks. I was at Orlando, Tampa and Fort Pierce.
I am sure Mr. Fowles will let you know about his adventures at the Florida concerts also.
Was a regular mini reunion. Fabulous time. I agree with Sunshine about the Tampa show.

Re: You Were There (Lightfoot '08)
Back to the top.......part 2 of the tour begins tomorrow.
I've seen a lot of talk about attending a show.....so let us know if you made it. If you choose not to present a detailed review, simply post a "I was at the (fill in the blank) show" to this thread. Start another thread if you wish to be more detailed, and I will probably notice it. (No imaginary friends please).

Re: You Were There (Lightfoot '08)
Vickie was in Manistee, and had a blast meeting up with fellow Corfidian Bill Hall! Unfortunately, we did not find Kathy. GREAT sold out show, enthusiastic crowd! I've arrived in the Waukegan area, and will be attending that show tonight.
