This thing is taking on a life of its own. Here's a link to the latest "songwriter as terrorist" spoof - please note it's listed as satire (and the site is DeadBrain.com):

Some of Gord's lyrics have made me suspicious for quite sometime now. The repetiveness in the song "Harmony" is also a secret code for terrorists.

It just goes to show you that no one has an origional thought anymore. 10 years ago there was a Seinfeld episode where Elaine and George were debating if Gordon Lightfoot was the name of the ship in a song written by Edmund Fitzgerald or the other way around. Jerry chimes in with a line something like "next he's going to write a song about the S.S. Cat Stevens."
Then John Stewart makes a joke on his show last week that next authorities are going after Gordon Lightfoot. Then this goofy article. Larry David thought of the joke first for the Seinfeld show, and everyone else just steals it. Unbelieveable!

It's easily believable Rob, nothing new under the sun, we just recycle.
Hey Watchman, the lyrics to the song from which you get your name is probably full of subversive persuasions to hit the major train stations and tracks....whatcha think?

"Good Evening,I'm Tom Brokaw and welcome to the NBC Nightly News!" "It's a sad day in the world of folk singers and singer/songwriters today,as a third accomplice with terrorist ties has been fingered!"
"As we know former singer Cat Stevens has been denied entry into the U.S. and folk Laurete Gordon Lightfoot is in solitary lockdown & only being allowed to eat Bitter Green lettuce and Wild Strawberries!"
"Today the greatest shock of all when the reclusive David Gates, formerly of the group Bread, was lead away in hand and ankle cuffs!"
"The SWAT team said Gates didn't put up a fight or resist but that they feared for their lives just the same!"
"To quote the Captain of the team,"There's just something the White House and Homeland Security find troubling about his lyrics and his singing!" "He sings so high for a man,it's obviuosly a very cleverly disguised morse code to Bin Laden!"
"Think about it,
"If","Everything I Own","Diary","Baby I'm A Want You","Make It With You","Lost Without Your Love"!! "Codes and signals under the guise of sweet mushy sentimentality!" "C'mon! No one's "that" sensitive!"
"David Gates had no spoken comment but is currently protesting from his cell with repeated chouruses of "Mother Freedom" and switching to "Make It With You" just to torment the prison guards."
"When we continue,Neil Diamond..."Just what did he really mean by "Cracklin' Rosie". ????

Hmm... And Borderstone, that's a funny ID name. Where did you get it? Near the Afghan border... Well everyone's a suspect here. LSH could be a code for LSD. brink could be on the brink of something big. stationmaster could be the master of the next train disaster. And johnfowles, well the possibilities are endless there! And Violet Blue Horse...well just how many horses anyway! And Sidney Freedmen...just how many men did he free? This place is a mess!

"Dan and Coley?..."I Really Want to See You Tonight." Why always in the night?"
then better add the controversial Air Supply to the list ...Even The Nights Are Better???
or Rita McNeil...Flying on My Own? (she could fit the unibomber psychological profile)
(agh, better not be stuck whistling these tunes all day now, lol ...mall music mania)

Let us not forget Seals & Crofts either!!!
"Diamond Girl" - Obviously a message to a female smuggler!
"Get Closer" - To the President maybe????!!!
"Summer Breeze" - Obviously means they'l make an air strike during summer and it'll be a breeze!
"Ruby Jean & Billie Lee" - Double Agents!
"Hummingbird" - Another way of referring to Air Force One? (or the noises in Pres. Bushes head.)
Yeah,Seals & Crofts!! Right up there with Boris & Natasha!
Of course the worst is Shields & Yarnell!!! They don't say anything but then...they don't need too!

What happened to your humor?
Anyway, who are those sickos to say "Lightfoot is not much of a singer, either", and why would someone believe that The Edmund Fitzgerald would have something to do with Al Queda, and his lyrics terroristic?
This kind of paranoya is the thing that Bin Laden would want.

Chris, the thread you are reading is a year old. If you look to the top of each message you'll see the dates.
This thread started when folk singer Cat Stevens was denied entry into the U.S. because he is of the muslim faith. It was all just a bunch of paranoid non-sense on the part of the Bush Admin.
For a long time Chris,America "did" lose it's humor. Mostly I had lost mine in 2003 when so many celebrities passed away.
Robby, thanks! I think Station 7 myself chose our names just to be a bit more "original".

Oops... Didn't realize it was an older topic... But still, accusing Lightfoot of being a terrorist! Rubbish.
