Song For A Winter's Night on BLUE RODEO's XMAS LP
SFAWN on BLUE RODEO Christmas album: After four decades of being together, Blue Rodeo will release their
first ever Christmas album, titled A Merrie Christmas To You on
November 4th, 2014. The band first released their debut album
Outskirts in 1987. Since then, they have released 13 albums, sold
over 4 million records and have won 12 Juno awards, six of them for
Group Of The Year. The band’s most recent studio album In Our
Nature debuted at #2 on the SoundScan Top albums chart and
marked the band’s highest chart number and biggest one week
sales in the SoundScan era.
Greg’s great-uncle, Arthur Keelor, was a freelance graphic
designer during WWI and created many iconic War Propaganda
posters. After the war, he worked with Rous & Mann Press
alongside many from the Group of Seven. During his time with Rous
& Mann, Keelor created a number of Christmas cards. When
thinking about artwork for Blue Rodeo’s Christmas record, Greg
went through his uncle’s artwork and suggested a few ideas to the
band. The group immediately loved the card “A Merrie Christmas
To You” and decided it was also the perfect name for their record.
This year has already been quite hectic for Blue Rodeo. Late last
year, it was announced that Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor will be
recipients of the Order of Canada. Along with that, the band was
honoured with a Governor General’s Performing Arts Award for
Lifetime Artistic Achievement. These are only the most recent
honours for the band. They were also granted a star on Canada’s
Walk Of Fame in 2009 and were inducted into the Canadian Music
Hall of Fame in 2012.
