The Ottawa Folk Festival has made another major lineup announcement just a week before the festival is set to kick off, adding folk icon Gordon Lightfoot to the bill.
After fellow Canadian heavyweight Neil Young bowed out last week due to an injury to a bandmate, Folkfest organizers hastily added Toronto indie-rock outfit City and Colour to the opening night festivities on Wed. Sept. 4.
Lightfoot will perform closing duties at the festival, taking the RavenLaw Stage at 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8.
“This is a marquee booking — a first for the Ottawa Folk Festival,” said artistic director Mark Monahan. “When people think of iconic Canadian acts, Gordon Lightfoot tops the list, not only in Canada, but internationally.”
Organizers also announced the addition of Vancouver garage rock duo The Pack A.D., who were a big hit at last year’s Bluesfest Electro-fied.
The band will be performing on Sept. 5, when it’ll be sharing the stage with Vampire Weekend.
“This is an excellent fit for our younger audience ... much as the addition of Gordon Lightfoot is for our more traditional patrons,” said Monahan.
Monahan said 200 reserved seats will be available for Lightfoot’s performance, and also confirmed the “Pick 3” tickets popularized by Bluesfest — where festivalgoers can choose to attend any three of the five festival dates for $99 — will also be available for Folkfest.
