TORONTO, Ont. - 'Tis the season to give back.

680News and Citytv's Breakfast Television teamed up to raise money and food items for the Daily Bread Food Bank, in the annual 'Spirit of the Season.'

The event was held in the lobby of the Sheraton Centre, Friday.

Canadian music icon Gordon Lightfoot stopped by to say hello to 680News music reporter Rudy Blair while on his way to the gym, and showed his support for the cause by signing a t-shirt which will be put up for auction.

CityNews anchor Gord Martineau was also on hand and said the support from the community was heartwarming.

"It's so heartwarming and refreshing to see the generosity of the people of this city because they get the fact that there must be a lot of Mom's and Dad's who are totally frustrated with the fact that they cannot provide for their families over Christmas and beyond," said Martineau.

Some of the items being looked for were stew, canned goods, baby formula. Cash donations were also being accepted.

"We've watched the economy and the way things are, and so we need to make sure that we can fill the shelves so that we can get through the winter," Gail Nyberg, executive director of the Daily Bread Food Bank, said.

If you can't make it down to the Sheraton Centre Friday, you can also make a financial donation online at DailyBread.ca or drop-off food at any fire hall.
