I just bought a new guitar, a Martin OM28V.
It's the orchestra model, and like the D-28, has herringbone inlay around the top and mother of pearl fret inlays. What a beauty! It's a V series, meaning it's made in the prewar style, with scalloped braces, a V neck, and aging toner on the front, covered with high gloss finish. It is out of this world to play. I've been playing all afternoon and evening, only stopping long enough to grab a bite to eat and check the discussion boards.
I'm going to use the new guitar in my upcoming concerts. The D-15 still has the big crack in it, but will be repaired soon. In spite of having a new guitar to play with, I still have a big soft spot in my heart for the old D-15. A lot of memories associated with it, and I just can't give up on it. Besides, it's the best smelling guitar ever made. Just ask Char... she'll agree.
So, I have a new toy to play with. My savings account is looking pretty sparse at the moment, but what the heck? What good is money if it's only going to sit in a bank account and get all moldy? Right?

Good for you Cathy! I have an old Yamaha classical acoustic guitar that I've been playing for years. I suppose one of these days I'll buy a nice guitar like you did. As often as I play it, I should get a better one.

Yes Cathy - at night when I close my eyes and think of the old geetar I can smell the mahogany as if it were right beside me in bed. When you asked me to smell it at the Delta for a small moment I thought you were a tad nuts but then the smell was so beautiful I knew you were right! It was a fabulous smell and even better than that it sounded so great!
Having an air guitar that costs nothing leaves me with scads of money to purchase all kinds of things....like a new furnace!

I know the damned new furnace won't smell as great as that geetar tho!!!

Your post about the new drumset was what made me remember to post about my new guitar.
Maybe we should start a rock band, Gord.
I love having new toys to play with. In just the past year alone, I've purchased a hand made fiddle, a Fender Passport 250 PA system, a banjo and now a new guitar. I'm running out of room to put all this stuff. I'm looking into getting a bigger place, just so I can have a room for all my musical equipment.
And Char, I have a video of you smelling the guitar. You have it right in front of your face. There is the sound of a big intake of air, then you lower the guitar down, look right into the camera and say, "That's the best smelling guitar I've ever smelled!" It's hilarious. You're hamming it up for the camera.

Congratulations on Your newest arrival!!Hope You did'nt chew off Your pickin nails waiting for it to arrive.I waited for over a year for my D-18GL,and there was not one day I did'nt think about it.It took about a week to have it shipped from Texas to Pa.after they{Craigs Music} finally received it and that was the worst part of the wait.I was worse than I was when my first daughter was born,worrying if it was going to get trashed during shipping etc.. What a thrill and relief it was to finally get it and find all fingers and toes in the right places...I still get that same feeling every time I get it out,and the first thing I do when I open the case...take in a big deep wif....Ahhhhh,to me it is intoxicating...
How is the banjo pickin coming along?I like the banjo in FtA,have You worked on that yet?
As for Your limited space problem,I have a very simple solution...We have lots of room in Our house and I would be happy to help out any Gordfan/guitarpicker in such a dilemna.Thats just the kind of guy I am,always willing to help out those in need..We have a very large yard,a nice semi-enclosed back porch/patio with great acoustics,a Fender Champ25 SE,a Peavy Ecoustic112,a Boss RC20 Phrase Recorder,a Alverez AJ60SC and Alv/YairiDY45(the fraternals),the elec.Samick wannabe Tele.(the neglected one,I admit,I don't even know were it is right now).I know that 28 would be very happy here for as long as needed, and You could visit anytime...Take some time and give it some thought...

Yeah Cathy thanks to you I am forced to learn to play this thing and it is not easy... wish I would have listened more to dad when he tried to teach me back when I was a child, makes you miss them all the more. Me being the knot-head I am just seems more difficult. Darn my fingers hurt.
