this was a sad, yet uplifting article to come across....I wish Burns and family the very best in the coming days and months

I believe that having a hockey arena named after you is a higher honour than being inducted (especially under any special conditions qualifier) in any Hall of Fame

I wonder if he is still able to play guitar at all...other than spending time with grandchildren, there may be no better therapy

I saw the ceremony on TV and he was so gracious and humble. It's very sad.. I have a great framed poster of him, Gilmour and Clark with their motorcycles..
He was just in hospital this week but released yeterday. He had/has pneumonia.

There's a FACEBOOK site (55 thousand+ members) I've posted a link for at my FB to have him inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. There are others in there without the stats he has..
Pat Burns is one of the classiest, most-respected coaches to ever stand behind the bench. In 14 seasons as an NHL coach, he amassed an impressive record of 501-350-161-14 in 1019 games with Montreal, Toronto, Boston and New Jersey.

He won three Jack Adams Awards with three different teams (Montreal in 1989, Toronto in 1993 and Boston in 1998) -- the only three time winner in history. He also won in his first year as a head coach. He hoisted Lord Stanley's Cup with the Devils in 2003.

He retired from coaching because of recurring bouts with cancer. After his latest diagnosis (lung cancer), he decided to forego treatment. Pat Burns will not be with us much longer. Let's pressure the HHOF selection committee and the media to get Pat Burns fast-tracked into the Hockey Hall of Fame. While he and his family can enjoy it. While he can attend in person. And while he can bask in the ultimate, and well-deserved achievement of a stellar career cut short. Please help us spread the word.

he surely belongs in the Hall someday/today

accelerating the induction is fine with me and i expect precedents have been already set

i meant that while alive, i imagine that being able to see youngsters playing in an arena named after 'me' would be even more glorious than seeing fans and tourists passing in front of a bust of 'me' in the HHOF

i couldn't find a clip on youtube of Pat singing and playing with his musical buds

i hope he continues to battle and maintain some quality of life...and if there's a Rock'em Sock'em Heaven, you know they'll have a heck of a band

He was really touched with the naming of the arena. It's truly a great honour for sure.
I wonder if we might re-name an arena/ice pad here in Whitby for Robert Attersley who just passed away. He was Whitby Mayor for years and star of the Whitby Dunlops who won gold against the Russians in the World Hockey championships in 1958.

In 2005, his famous No. 15 Dunnies jersey was mounted to the wall in the main lobby at Iroquois Park, alongside other local hockey greats such as Keith Primeau, Joe Nieuwendyk and Gary Roberts in a pre-game ceremony. Also on the team was Harry Sinden..

oh, Burnsie would have dug that game...what speed and energy....can't believe this hasn't bought 'Omar' out of early retirement

i found the Beatles soundtrack PB montage fine but I was more into the intro with Paul Langlois's soundtrack (Tragically Hip guitarist new single)...GREAT!
