Default Country Singer/Smokey & The Bandit co-star Jerry Reed passes on at 71.

I just came in from CNN.com and Jerry Reed passed away in Nashville yesterday morning (Labor Day) at age 71,due to complications from Emphysema.

I know most of us here know Mr. Reed for his fun novelty song from the 70s,"When You're Hot You're Hot" and "Amos Moses". he may not have had the status of say Johnny Cash but he was still fun to listen too.

My brothers and I always got a kick out of him in the first 2 "Smokey and The Bandit" movies as Bandit's trucking buddy "Snowman" w/ bassett hound "Fred". (He was the star of the third film but without Reynolds).

Jerry also made many TV appearences on,of course, variety shows but most notably "Hee-Haw". He also guested on,"Mama's Family","Alice" twice and even on the classic saturday morning cartoon "Scooby Doo".
He was most recently in the 1997 comedy film "The Waterboy" with Adam Sandler & Henry Winkler.

Rest in peace Jerry, thanks for the msuic and the good humor.

I always did like his guitar playing on "The Goodtime Hour," with Glen Campbell... And of course the "Smokey & the Bandit" movies...

Heck of a guitar player, funny man and seemed an overall great guy. He and Johnny Cash turned me on to Dick Feller who is an amazing songwriter - wrote Reed's Lord Mr. Ford, CAsh's Any Old Wind That Blows and John Denver's Some Days are Diamonds.

Is it just me or does Amos Moses have a bit of an R&B sound to it?

There will always be one film that he was in that I will forever have trouble watching whenever it airs & that one was, I believe, called Gator, where he played, shall we say, a very nasty sort of crime lord who got what was coming to him in the end. Mostly, though, I do remember that crazy Cajun for some very excellent music. I hope the Allmighty enjoys his music as much as we here on earth did.

Loved him in Smokey and the Bandit!

My first two puppies were named after that movie...lol.
Little girl was Smokey and her boyfriend was Bandit.
Great dogs and great movie!

LOved his stuff from the Glen Campbell show (where introduced the world to Ovation guitars), to the acting gigs. A great talent. Now for my four year old daughter -- she has recently become a Jerry reed fan through reruns of Scooby Doo in which he guest starred back in the 70s. I showed her videos on Youtube of the real Jerry. I think I'll not mention this for quite a while.

Sorry to read here about the loss of Jerry Reed, if that piece of info filtered across the pond, I missed it. I have been moved to dig out my DVD "Chet Atkins & Jerry Reed In Concert At The Bottom Line June 22, 1992" To remind me just what a great talent he was, not that I needed reminding.

Jerry wrote 2 great songs (among many others) That Elvis covered, namely "Guitar Man" & "US Male" Elvis invited Jerry to play guitar on his versions.

And don't forget Jerry's version of "She Got The Goldmine, I Got The Shaft" there is a video of Jerry performing that song on Youtube, check it out.

He will be sadly missed.

Just a few days after I posted this i went to Wal-Mart and bought "Jerry Reed:Super Hits",in tribute to him.

I've been busy while on vacation from work but I'll give it a play hopefully tonight. I got introduced to Jerry in Scooby as well.
Then "Smokey & The Bandit 2" (I was to young to see #1 when it came out.)

I know I heard "When You're Hot You're Hot" on the rasio in the early 70s as well.
