On the front cover of the Gords Gold 2 album we see GL standing on the beach. Behind him is the sea. The ocean. And it turns out a good bit of songs on this album have something to to with the ocean in some shape form or fashion. High And Dry deals with pirates and "lovesick sailin", and then there's the Wreck of the Edmund Fitz, a shipwreck song, and in The Pony Man there are the lyrics "And soon we all go 'sailin' into the midnight sky" and "Up to the slip comes a pirate ship".
And in theres "Away you will go sailing in a race among the ruins". And theres Christian Island.
Triangle and Ghosts of Cape Horn are also ship songs.
And then theres Its Worth Believin. In one part of the lyrics theres "Do you like to go walking on the beach".
A considerable number of songs on this album have something to do with the ocean, sailing or ships or something about the water in general and the picture of Gord is in front of the ocean. IS THIS A COINCIDENCE OR AREN'T IT???

I guess that's why on some of the remakes he sounds like he's singing out in the middle of nowhere (or a calm sea). I think it's merely coincidence given how often he sings of water travel.

It's no coincidence at all. The picture of him standing by the ocean was taken on purpose as a theme to his music.

Did he do this on all the albums or just this one or some of them?

(I also forgot to mentioned the loneley sailors who have trouble being seen in All The Lovely Ladies)

Objection Your Honor, this line of questioning seems designed purely to provoke the witness, LOL.

As a matter of fact Rebecca, he did.

I was passing through Toronto on my way to my Chiniguntha River trapline and stopped for a brew in Ye Ol' Irish Tavern. I was drinking my ale when none other than Gordon Lightfoot sat next to me. I was very shocked and excited.

We talked about so many things and we even played "Rock-Paper-Scissors". As he was asking me for some ideas for his next studio album, I interupted him and just had to ask why the hell he had his picture taken in front of the ocean for GGII. He said "Isn't obvious trapper Al?" I felt really stupid and we both had a good laugh and played another round of 'Rock-Paper-Scissors".

So, there you have it!

Bill,
Seriously, I was asking because I was interested, but thanks anyway. LOL.

This is eerie, Watchman. Was Gord traveling alone or with an entourage?
By the way, just how good is Gord at rochambeau, AKA "rock-paper-scissors"?
Thanks,
Rebecca

Rebecca,

Well I'm glad he broke down and told you the real story. He's kind of shy and private, The Watchman that is, and I thought we were about to play another round of "who can get him started?" Most folks haven't heard that story Watchman, thanks for sharing! But don't be surprised if your revelation stirs up the anti-fur bunch, LOL.

He was by himself that night. He's not the entourage type. He was pretty lousy at "Rochambeau" actually. We were stuck the whole time and nobody actually won. He kept making new things up like a glass of water to rust the scissors etc. Makes up his own rules as he goes along.

Hey, I love animals. "I break for animals. I eat them and wear their fur".
