Most Artistic

Orillia or OrilliART?

Submitted by: Leslie Fournier

How 'artsy' art thou, Orillia? Let me count the ways! Birthplace of Gordon Lightfoot, we honor his legacy with our celebrated Mariposa Folk Festival, a summer powerhouse of musical talent, 52 years strong! Summer home to Stephen Leacock, we host the renowned Leacock Literary Summer Festival and present the Leacock Memorial medal and cash prize for the best in Canadian humour writing. Childhood home of Franklin Carmichael, we have created a permanent gallery in our Museum of Art & History, to showcase his talent and inspire future generations of Group of Seven painting excellence! Birthplace of Elizabeth Wynn Wood, we celebrate outdoor art and sculpture with our grass-roots, award winning 'Streets Alive' program, a stunning, annual public art exhibit stretching 5 city blocks! It is run by, funded by and embraced by our entire community! We honour our artistic roots and we nurture creativity in our citizens starting young and continuing throughout their lives. Gordon Lightfoot is right when he sings: we are 'Painters passing through ...' Come, pass through or stay awhile in Canada's most artistic town: ORILLIA! We can't wait to inspire your next masterpiece!

First a nice thread about Massey 1999 at:-
http://www.corfid.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=18201
(golly gumdrops could it really be 14 years ago that I visited Orillia for the first time?)
On a later occasion (2005 i believe it was) we saw a pair of Orillia signboards and the day excursion group posed memorably in front of one of them:-

a picture of the other sign that has since disappeared (allegedly to Oklahoma) was posted in another thread by Doug as an attachment so I'll do likewise

I miust now admit hat I did not notice the vote button my first visit I have now pressed it even although I am not sure what I was voting for!!
Had I had a choice I would have voted for Dorval PQ as Canadar's most interesting town since I used to live and work there (and bought all 5 of the United Artists Gord slbums in Morgans in Dorval Shopping Center).i also recall walking about a hundred yards from my apartment to the local cinema to see the Beatles first film back in 1964, very relevant in the light of Sir Paul's appearance in MSG (Madison Square Gardens) in about an hour on 12/12/12.
As far as voting goes i am not usually Conservative when taking the chance to vote when I Labour to be Liberal in my allegances in a Democratic Republic. and of course I have not been Independant since 2000!
