Default Schnectady

The show was held in an old vaudville theater painstakingly renovated. Not as elaborate as the Palace in Waterbury, but bigger and just lovely. People were there to appreciate Gord and his songs, and I have to say, they were a much more appreciative audience at least vocally than in Connecticut. What can I say, we are way too polite in CT! It looked like a sellout, and the audience was great! In Waterbury at one point it was so quiet in the theater that I almost looked behind me to see if everyone was still there! Terry said later he thought he heard crickets!

Lightfoot came on for the first set wearing a red velvet jacket.

Set list was:
Cotton Jenney
Carefree Highway
Sea of Tranquility (here he took a break and told two old chestnuts, why is the moon so pale? cause it was out all night. And How long is a hare on a rabbit's back? About 3 seconds. We were in an old vaudville theater, so it was fitting!)
14 Karat Gold
Never too Close
A Painter Passing Through
In My Fashion
Rainy Day People
Shadows
Beautiful
The Watchman's Gone
Ribbon of Darkness
Sundown
Wreck of the Ed. Fitz.

Intermission

Triangle
Hangdog Hotel Room
Restless
if Children Had Wings (I don't remember if anyone commented on the change of a verse here, more about that later)
Waiting for You
Make Way For the Lady
If You Could Read My Mind
Don Quixote
Baby Step Back (it was about here that he said he'd like to introduce the band. They all introduced themselves to each other and shook hands, I remember they used to do that a lot in the 70's. Never gets old for me!!)
Early Morning Rain (someone yelled out a request, and Gord said he'd prefer a toe tapper at this point, it's Weds night and lets keep it up!)
Blackberry Wine

Encore
Song for a Winters Night

My front row seat had a couple of rows of folding chairs set up in front of it, but that was ok. The sound was just excellent! The review from the paper that Char posted had some of the little tidbits that the audience yelled out, so I won't retype them. I had typed a long report before I left the hotel, as for some reason I can't post on Corfid from my house. Unfortunately, it dissappeared when I hit submit. Not having much luck with corfid these days it seems.
Restless was a highlight for me, as was If Children had Wings. Gord has changed the one verse from "a wife cannot stand too much pain" to" a life that I cannot explain". I love the change, and I love the arrangement that they have given it. I got the opportunity to tell Mike how much I enjoyed his keyboard work on this song, just so sweet and lovely. It really, really enhances the song and makes it just so sweet.

Another great show, and I can't wait till Sept for my next one!

Hi Jenney... great review and thanks for the setlist.

I heard "If Children Had Wings" twice this spring when GL was here in the Upper Midwest. You are right about the rewritten second verse that so perfectly reflects recent interviews GL has given when talking about those years.

As I recall as the song ended, he did the refrain once, and then hummed a line or two before closing. Lovely arrangement.

I noticed the lyrics change in May--not sure i like the idea of a change in any lyrics but the change is a good one in If Children had Wings..sad tho..
Must have been funny to see the 'old' intro..lol
