While people eagerly await more Lightfoot showdowns in the main section of the board, I'm going to post some non-GL showdowns here. I'll use well-known songs by well-known singer-songwriters, and I'm going to match up songs with similar themes.
Rules: Vote for the song you prefer. One vote per member or guest user. Please only vote if you're familiar with BOTH songs!
Non-GL Showdown #1:
"Cat's in the Cradle" by Harry Chapin
-vs.-
"Father and Son" by Cat Stevens
No, the theme isn't the word "cat"--it's father and son songs!

It's not time to make a change; just relax, take it easy. You're still young. That's your fault. There's so much you have to go thru . . .
If they were right, I'd agree! But, it's them they know, not me - now there's a way and I know
I have to go away. I know I have to go.
. . . we're gonna have a good time then

Sometimes you've got to go against the grain.
I'm going with Cat's in the Cradle, by the late great.

Wow!! That's a tough choice. Both great songs but because the message in "Cat's in the Cradle" is so clear (to me anyway) I gotta go with it.

Harry ...( he de man !!!)
Just a few hours ago (while being "chased" by a bushfire), they played Taxi on the car radio , I turned it up and commented to my wife "I haven't heard this on the radio in a couple of years".
Coincidence time !

Okay I'm going to finally get back to this showdown. In counting up the latest results, I BELIEVE the final tally is 10-8 in favor of "Cradle." That's if you include the votes by The Rez and Sydney Steve, which aren't explicit. This is almost as bad as the 2000 US presidential election! I'll make matters more complex by voting myself: I prefer "Father and Son."
The unofficial count then is 10-9, with Harry Chapin on top.
