hello,

my question to the people out there who may know this is:

does anybody know the whereabouts of this place la cave? does it still exist?
seems like Gordon has done a lot of concerts in this northeast Ohio region in his time of touring etc., and during the concert here last summer he talked azbout the small municipal airport that he spent a good amount of time at during some previous concert. he did not seem overly attached to this bar in the airport but, talked about the amount of time he spent there...funny how some things like that are worth him attaching significance...not that he seemed thrilled about it or whatever but, that his life must somehow be attched in very incongruent ways to topics like this. anyone else out there sense that? But, let's relate his thinking to our thinking about work. nah, his work would be so much more interesting, or maybe not. any thoughts?

I only know that La Cave is in Cleveland, Ohio.

Perhaps someone from that area knows if it is still in operation.

Yes Gwen and Suzi La Cave seems to be still operating.I have previously searched using Google and did find a site a while ago with a picture of a bottle of wine at the top. But all I came up with today was this site which does feature a nice "La Cave du vin" logo and also gives the address and phone number:- http://www.digitalcity.com/cleveland...&type=overview
the logo is useful for making a CD jewel case insert graphic methinks
Is there anybody reading this in Cleveland who could come up with a digital picture of the place I would very much like to see one

La Cave opened in 1962 in the University Circle area of Cleveland. It began as a coffeehouse folk club but eventually became a rock 'n' roll club. The site had been a chinese restaurant and bowling alley. La Cave was in the basement and had two hundred seats. In the club's early folk days, it presented Simon & Garfunkle, Buffy Sainte Marie, Judy Collins, Ian & Sylvia, and of course Gord Lightfoot. In the late '60's the club introduced Clevelanders to Jimi Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane, and Blood, Sweat, and Tears, to name a few. Due to declining ticket sales, debt and legal issues, La Cave closed in 1969. The site is now part of University Hospitals of Cleveland.

The restaurant John Fowles refers to is in Cleveland Heights, about five miles from the old LaCave location and is not associated with the old club.

sounds like the warehouse district area up there. 200 people is a pretty comfortable concert size. quite perfect. I wonder how long it has been since Gord played that small of a concert? Practice sure did improve his art, then, he probably wasn't too interested in what he was painting. You are art or the artist. Someone here said Gord sailed along the Atlantic. Does that person know if he sailed through the Intracoastal waterways along the Atlantic? That is awesome if he did!
