A lot of people have asked how I play the intro to SFAWN, and today Val discovered tabs that I'd written for her a year or so ago. This isn't what Gord or Terry plays, but it sounds very similar and works for a solo guitarist. If you want the tabs, you can download them from http://cathycowette.com/SFAWN-Intro.pdf

You'll need Adobe Acrobat to read this file. You can get a free Acrobat download at http://www.adobe.com

For those who can't read tab, here is another explanation of how to play it, one that I posted at the newsgroup.
I hope the format holds...

It's basic Travis picking, but you have to pinch the bass string and the top
two strings on the first beat of the picking pattern.

The basic chords in the intro are F, C, D7 and G, but in order to get that
unique sound, you have to play a G bass all the way through it, so you are
playing the following chords
F/G 3X0011 (bar strings one and 3 w/ index and play the 6th string with
your ring finger)
C/G 3X0010 (string 2 with index, 6 with ring)
D7/G 3X0012 (same as above except string 1 fret 2 with middle finger)
G 3X0003 (pinky on string one and ring on six)
Your ring finger will stay on the third fret of string 6 all the way through
the progression.

Here's the picking pattern. Numbers inside brackets indicate the strings are
all played at the same time. T = thumb, I = index, M = middle and R = ring
and the numbers next to them are the strings you pluck with each one. So, T6
means play the 6th string with your thumb, I3 means play the third string
with your index...
Here's the picking pattern you play throughout the intro. It's the same for
all chords:

[T6, M2, R1] - T4 - I3 - T6 - R3 - T4

Your thumb will alternate between the 6th and 4th strings continuously
throughout the entire progression.
