A group of Internet Lightfoot fans are hosting a party and house concert, featuring well known singer/songwriter David Mallett, himself a Lightfoot fan. David is best known for The Garden Song ("Inch by inch, row by row ..."), but in fact he has written many songs recorded by name artists and has recorded his own material as well. Many Lightfoot fans are also Mallett fans (including some folks here), and that was how we came up with this idea. November 16th was the date of the Saturday concert at Massey Hall; many of us were going to Toronto, and we wanted to do something special that night. Jenney Rivard and I are the hosts of this party and concert.

David has promised to do some Lightfoot covers for us as well as his own songs. In addition, two of our own - Cathy Cowette from Maine and Derek Kidd from California - will open for David. They first met in person in May, 2001, and have played together on three occasions including as part of the Lightfoot Tribute Band that played Caffe Lena in March (see photo - Cathy and Derek in foreground). If you were there, you know how good they are. If you weren't there, or if you just want a treat, listen to this:

The party and house concert are at my home on Saratoga Lake, in Saratoga Springs, NY. The date is Saturday, November 16th. Dinner is at 6pm, with the concert starting after that. Admission is pretty steep, because David is a prominent artist. We are asking $70/person, which includes $10 toward dinner. I can assure you that the dinner part will be a bargain and worth more than $10, and the concert will be priceless.

There are about 30 people planning on coming so far, but we can accommodate more. If we get enough more, we can refund a small amount at the door. Many of the people know each other, but there are quite a few newcomers. So far, every gathering of Lightfoot fans has brought strangers together as if they were lifelong friends. We have also invited a few people who are Mallett fans, and not Lightfoot fans. Yet.

If you think you might like to join us, please let me know by e-mail. You can learn more about David Mallett by visiting his web site at www.davidmallett.com and about Cathy and Derek by reading about them on the Lightfoot Tribute Band web site at www.mageenet.net/LightfootTributeBand/ .

Hello, I'd never heard of David Mallett before. Thanks for mentioning him. I went onto CDNow and clicked on the samples of his album Ambition and I like his voice. Will this concert be recorded and will it be just him or with a band? Thanks a lot. Matthew

He is bringing his bass player. We do plan to record Cathy and Derek. I don't know if David will let us record him, but we will ask about it.
