NORTH BAY – Call him an icon, call him a legend, call him the standard bearer of Canada's folk music library, this summer fans in three Northern Ontario towns will have a chance to call Gordon Lightfoot by name when he takes the stage.
The engagements in North Bay, Timmins and Kirkland Lake in August are the first Lightfoot has given since the 1960s with his Timmins show being the first since 1961.
The only time he has played North Bay is 1967.
He has accomplished a few things since then.
Lightfoot has won 15 Juno Awards and been nominated for 5 Grammy Awards. He was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1986 and the Canadian Country Music Hall Of Fame in 2001. In May 2003 was made a Companion of the Order of Canada and is also a member of the Order of Ontario. In 2004 was inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame and, in 2012 into the U.S. Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Lightfoot plays Timmins on Aug. 26, Kirkland Lake on Aug. 27 and North Bay on Aug. 28. The North Bay show will be held at the Capitol Centre and tickets go on sale this Friday, March 20.
Lightfoot remains an active entertainer at age 76, performing up to 80 shows each year.
