Default On Yonge Street

Recently, I was watching a youtube clip of Lightfoot's recollections of growing up in Canada and being a hockey fan. Towards the end, they had an audio snippet of a song I'd never heard before which I liked very much, so I did some digging to find out what it was. I thought it was an old rarity or something from the 70's, but to my surprise, it turned out to be On Yonge Street from A Painter Passing Through. I never heard anything from the album and I remember reading a review of 'Painter' that somebody posted on Amazon where they said that Gord's vocals on the record were terrible. While it is true that Lightfoot's voice has lost something over the years (and whose hasn't?), he reached back through the mists of time and delivered a great vocal on that track that wouldn't have been out of place on any of his classic albums from the 70's or 80's. " Painter' will soon be in my Lightfoot collection!

Enjoy the album. Lots of snare and high end mix, if that's your thing.

This is probably my fave tune. I like Heff's work on it. Here is how it might have sounded if Gord wrote and sang it back in the 70s.
