Wonderful Concert Memories
After being away from my girlfriend and my apartment for over two years, helping my father with his pilot car business. (escorting oversize load trucks). I have been in the process of trying toget back to good ole Davenport. I figured in time to catch Gordon in either Des Moines or Peoria in April. But things have changed. My girlfriend's very troubled 21 year old daughter was allowed by her to came back into my girlfriend's apt. And in doing so she almost totally wrecked the mother's finances to the point of thousands of dollars.
So regretfully I will miss the concerts, we have to take care of what's important.
But I would like to share memories of the last time I saw Gordon April 2001
Here is a letter a sent to a friend..
Here is what happened when I saw Gord.. Along with the picture I told you about.

Subject: Gord's Concert
This is a short synopsis of what occurred yesterday
Just got home from the Lightfoot concert. It was wonderful.... But you wouldn't believe what transpired today.
After the office, went to Northpark to work a booth as a volunteer for the computer society
Then I stopped by Erin's to get my good pair of compact binoculars for the concert.
I then stopped at Wal-Mart to look for a small compact camera that would fit in my pocket , because My good 35MM camera isn't working well, besides it's to bulky to easily carry in a coat. Camera's aren't to be allowed in the concert etc....
I found a Polaroid compact 35 with auto load and flash on the clearance table for $ 5.00
Just the ticket for tonight maybe??? But what would be the chances of using it???
Camera and binoculars solved....
We got tickets about 2 hours before the show , Main Floor towards the back across from the mixing boards, where all the sound is directed to. Then went out to Steak and Shake to eat.
Parked by the Office went up and listened to a little Gord until it was about time to go.
We got to the Adler about an hour before the concert and while we were waiting I asked about the posters for the show and mentioned that I would love to have one if possible. The girl I talked to said that after the show I could have it if it was still there. About 10 minutes later still before the concert she walked over and handed it to me. ( A big time blessing) I'm thinking wonderful, now if I could only get it signed. Ran the poster back to the office for safe keeping, not knowing there were a couple of empty seats just behind us.
At the intermission asked the sound man, if Gordon would possibly sign something after the show. He said that it was usually no problem, the best place would be by the
bus in the back of the theater. Now it was hurry back the 2 blocks to the office to get the poster and I also picked up the original 1st album that Gordon made.
It was a truly special night, He was in good voice and was very warm and personable on stage. He did a lot of his hits and introduced some new material as well.
After the concert went to were the bus was, talked to the stage crew, his manager,
and the band. They really liked the idea that I had the original album with me.
Told them I've been a fan of their work since around 1970. By the way the keyboard player is the relative newcomer to the group only been playing with Gordon since
1981, the rest go back to the early 1970's .
I asked the band if they would sign the poster for me. They all did.
Then Gordon came out , I asked if he would sign the poster and album, which he did,
We also talked for a few minutes, he seemed very congenial and down to earth. After a talking for a just a few minutes . It seemed like I had known him.
I even was bold enough to share something I wrote with him. Told him the story of how I borrowed and paraphrased a line of his into one of my poems.
His Lyrics from I'm not supposed to care
" I wish you good spaces in the far away places you go
If it rains or it snows
May you be safe and warm and never grow old"
My poem was to Toni when she left for New Jersey
Though things haven't always worked out
and there were times we had our doubts
There was never a bill for happiness due
And these things I wish for you
May your skies always be blue
may all your hopes and dreams come true
May you tears be forever of gladness
and never of sadness
and though our paths may part
You'll always have a special place in my heart.
Believe it or not He said it was great.... What a pat on the back for the Wordsmith himself. I told him that I had written some other stuff including a good one about
marriage. Gordon said I had talent and asked me to send copies to him.... DO YOU BELIEVE IT
I'm having a hard time believing what's taking place myself.
Then I figured I might as well try for the picture also.
Of course he said.......... Yes...
So now I have to take a lot more pictures tomorrow so I can have them film developed
as soon as possible.
It was a truly wonderful and blessed night
God Bless
Kevin

Good stuff.
To this day, I wish I would have asked about a couple of the posters I had seen in the days before his fame.

Re: Wonderful Concert Memories
As a new fan I am always happy to hear how nice Gordon is to people.
I am happy for you that you had such a great conversation with him and the rest of the band.
Sorry you can't manage a concert this year. I hope your life takes a turn for the better soon.
I like your poem...hopefully you will post more for us sometime soon.

Hey Patti, where did you learn to write Gords initials this way ~gl~.
I know I learned it here also when I joined Corfid. I think it was from a post by Janice, who was in California ?
This was her signature...

Re: Wonderful Concert Memories
Patricia Louise - just like Patti LaBelle. That's a pretty french name. I know some Patricia and a few Louise, but it's the first time I get to see the two in the same name.

Re: Wonderful Concert Memories
I also have a cousin who is a few years younger with the same first and middle name. Not only that we kind of look alike and we're the same height and weight and even wear the same shoe size and ring size. When we went to a bar together, people thought they were seeing double.
